What is a CampusCruiser/WebAdvisor Waitlist?
The CampusCruiser/WebAdvisor Waitlist is an automated process that provides students with the opportunity to add
themselves to a list of students who want to register for a closed class section. If a seat becomes available, the first
student on the waitlist receives a CampusCruiser email offering the opportunity to register. If the student chooses not to
register or fails to register for the seat within 24 hours, the next student on the list is offered the seat and so on, until
the available seat is taken. If more than one seat in a closed section opens, students are offered seats in the order in
which their names appear on the waitlist.
What are the advantages of being on a waitlist?



It’s an equitable way to determine who should get a seat in a closed course when a seat becomes available.
Students receive a convenient email notification when a seat opens up, eliminating the need to check “Search
for Classes” frequently.
Waitlisting eliminates the need to seek written approvals to join a closed class section.
Do all MCC classes have waitlists?
No, not all MCC classes allow waitlisting. If a waitlist is available, you’ll see the following message when you attempt to
web register for the closed class section: “Course filled. Either add to waitlist or look for an available section”. If a class
is closed and does not have waitlist, you’ll need to look for an open seat in another section of the course.
Does being on a Waitlist guarantee me a seat?
No, being on a waitlist only indicates your preference to be enrolled in a course section should a seat become available.
There is no guarantee that a seat will become available.
Will I be charged for a class if I’m on the waitlist?
No. You will only be charged tuition and fees if you actually register for the class.
Are course corequisite and prerequisite rules and other registration restrictions checked before I can waitlist for a
course section?
Yes, all registration rules and restrictions are checked and may prevent you from adding yourself to a waitlist, as well as
from registering if you are offered a seat in a course section. Always check “My Restrictions” before attempting to
register or waitlist.
Is there a limit to the number of students who can add themselves to a waitlist?
Yes, a maximum of 5 students can waitlist for a course section.
What is the deadline to add myself to a waitlist?
You can waitlist for courses up to one week before the start of the term in which the class is scheduled. After that, all
waitlists are deleted.
Can I add myself to more than one waitlist?
You can put yourself on waitlists for different courses. However, you cannot register for a course and also put yourself
on a waitlist for another section of the same course. Nor can you waitlist yourself for multiple sections of the same
course. Examples:



Yes - waitlist a ENG 121 section and waitlist a BUS 101 section
No – register for ENG 121-16 and waitlist ENG 121-22
No – waitlist for ENG 121-16 and waitlist for ENG 121-22
Note: Your schedule may not exceed 20 credit hours total, including both waitlisted and registered courses combined.
How do I add myself to a waitlist - Step-by-Step Instructions:
If you attempt to web register for a closed class section and see the message “Course filled. Either add to waitlist or
look for an available section”, you may add yourself to the waitlist by following these steps:
1. Add the class you want to your “Registration Selections” by choosing it through “Search and Register” or
“Express Register”
2. Choose “Waitlist” from the drop-down menu under the “Action” column next to the class.
3. Click “Submit”. If your attempt to add yourself to the waitlist was successful, you should see the following
message next to the class: On Waitlist.

How do I know what number I am on the waitlist?
Students can review their waitlist status, remove their name, or view what number they are on the waitlist by going to
“Manage My Waitlist” under the WebAdvisor tab in CampusCruiser.

How will I be notified if a seat becomes available in a closed course and I am next on the waitlist?
You will be notified by CampusCruiser email that a seat has become available and that you have 24 hours to register for
it before the seat is offered to the next student on the waitlist. When a seat becomes available, your “Waitlist Status”
under “Manage My Waitlist” will appear as “P – Permission to Register”. If you choose not to register, or fail to register
within the 24 hour time period, you will lose your spot on the waitlist and the next student on the waitlist will be given
permission to register.
It is your responsibility to know your registration status and to take advantage of the offer of an available seat within the
24 hour period. If you choose not to register, or fail to take advantage of the offer of the available seat within 24 hours,
your name will be dropped from the waitlist. It’s important to check your CampusCruiser email and review your status
under “Manage My Waitlist” daily. Be sure to delete unwanted emails from your CampusCruiser email inbox frequently
so there is room to receive new emails. If your mailbox is full you may not receive notification of an available seat.
Will my name remain on the waitlist if I’m given permission and register for the class?
No. If you register for the class after you are offered a seat or if you fail to register by the deadline, your name is
removed from the waitlist for the class section.
What if I change my mind and want to remove myself from a waitlist?
If you are no longer interested in a course section, you should drop yourself from the waitlist. Go to “Manage My
Waitlist” under the WebAdvisor tab in CampusCruiser and select “Remove” from the waitlist. This will free your
CampusCruiser inbox from unnecessary emails and provide the next student on the list with the opportunity to be
offered a seat if one becomes available.
What if I don’t get into a class despite being on the waitlist?
Once the period for waitlisting has ended, you will need to find an alternate open section of a course and register for the
open section instead.
