Touring DC on the Metro Rail The Hilton Washington DC/ Rockville Hotel and Executive Conference Center is easily accessible by the Metro Red line, and is located directly next to the Twinbrook Station in Rockville, Maryland. Getting to the Hilton Washington DC/ Rockville Hotel and Executive Conference Center from the Twinbrook Station: • When you get off the train at Twinbrook, follow the signs to the escalators which will take you down to the ground level exit. • Once you pay your fare, and exit through the turnstiles, stay to the right and exit the South side of the station. The Metro Bus area will be directly in front of you, should you wish to pick up the bus to another destination. Directly across the street from the station is the rear entrance for the Hilton Rockville Hotel. The rear entrances are clearly labeled. Arriving late? Do not worry. Entrances are next to the hotels delivery loading areas and are heavily trafficked late into the evening by hotel staff members. Once you enter, follow the signs to the hotel lobby and check in. Be advised though, the rear entrances are locked at 11 PM for our guests security, so you may have to call to be granted access. Metrorail Transit System - Fares and Service hours Opens: 5 a.m. weekdays 7 a.m. weekends Closes: midnight Sunday-Thursday 3 a.m. Friday-Saturday nights Fares: • • • • Fares based on distance traveled. Average ride is between $3-4. Metrorail’s senior/disabled fare is one-half the regular fare. Transfers- free within Metrorail. Rail-to-bus transfer: o 45¢ on regular routes o $2.20 on express routes o One-Day Passes are available. How to ride the Metrorail • • • • • Metro stations are marked by large brown columns. The colored strips indicate the lines served by the station. Fare cards can be purchased prior to boarding any train. Use the fare maps to calculate the amount of your trip. Fare cards can be purchased for cash or credit card at Metro station fare machines. Fare cards are non transferable. Follow the signs to your platform. Flashing lights at the platform's edge let you know a train is coming. The train's destination is displayed over the train's front and side windows. The line color is displayed on the front and back of the trains. Groups can mail order fare cards that are tailored to their needs and in any amount. A check or money order is required. How to ride Metrobus • • • • Wait for the bus at a marked bus stop. Have exact change, pass or transfer. Drivers cannot make change. Destinations are displayed on the front and side of buses. Signal the driver as your stop approaches by pulling the signal cord. If you do not know when your stop is, ask the driver to announce it. MetroAccess Paratransit Service is available to eligible people with disabilities who are unable to use regular accessible Metrorail, Metrobus and local bus service. Service is available seven days a week. In June 2008, MetroAccess initiated door-to-door service. OR, • • • • Take a shuttle from the airport to the MARC rail station Take the MARC train to Union Station. From there, you can transfer to Metro's Red Line Ride the Red Line towards Shady Grove until you reach the Twinbrook Station. Get off the train and head towards the exit. Notable Points of Interest on the Red Line Rockville The Rockville Town Square is a great place for shopping, dining and family entertainment. White Flint Check out White Flint Mall with its Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdales as anchor stores. Treat yourself with something yummy from Cheesecake Factory. Grosvenor / Strathmore Just 2 stops from our back door, the Music Center at Strathmore is a popular outdoor music venue, hosting performing arts concerts and musical performances. Check out the free art gallery or take in tea on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Mansion at Strathmore. Medical Center The National Library of Medicine (NLM) is the largest medical library in the world. Bethesda Bethesda Row includes shops and restaurants in a promenade setting. This is the best stop for those making a trip to Congressional Country Club, home of the 2011 US Open and future home of the AT&T Invitational, Tiger Wood’s tournament. Friendship Heights Tiffany and Co., Louis Vitton, and Chanel are among the high end shops a short walk from this metro station. Van Ness / UDC/ Cleveland Park National Cathedral is just one of the many landmarks you can get to from this station. Woodly Park – Zoo No trip to Washington DC is complete with stopping at the National Zoo and seeing the Giant Pandas. Just a 10 minute ride from our Rockville Hotel. Dupont Circle Trendy shops, boutiques, art galleries and clubs mark the highlights of Dupont Circle, one of the main centers for nightlife in Washington DC. Metro Center This is the stop you are looking for if you are planning to visit the White House. Gallery Place/ Chinatown Verizon Center is home to the Washington Wizards, Capitals and Mystic, as well as a ton of concerts and family themed entertainment performance. Check out the International Spy Museum. Visit the National Portrait Gallery. Union Station Historic train station housing numerous shops and an upscale shopping mall.
