TOP TEN Most Circulated Books, Audiovisual Items &
Magazines at the Public Library for 2007
What were the top reads of 2007? Which videos circulated the most? Which title was the most popular
with adults, teens and kids? The Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County just released its
statistics that show what books, videos, CDs and magazines Greater Cincinnatians couldn’t get enough
of last year.
Topping out the reading list of fiction for adults is Cross by James Patterson. For teens, it’s The
Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, whose book was selected as the youth title for the Library’s 2007
On the Same Page community reading program. For children, Harry Potter and the Order of the
Phoenix by J.K. Rowling; and Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson were among the most
popular.
With J.K. Rowling’s final book out this past summer, interest ran high among youth for audio books
on her previous releases Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Order
of the Phoenix. In fact, the top seven of the most popular audiovisual titles for children and three of the
top 10 teen selections were Harry Potter books on CD.
The highest circulating books were works of fiction, but there were several nonfiction titles that also
were very sought after well: Death Note by Tsugumi Ohba; The Innocent Man: Murder and Injustice
in a Small Town by John Grisham; The Guinness Book of Records, and Marley & Me: Life and Love
With the World's Worst Dog by John Grogan.
