Programmes
January exchange term really is so short and it only offers limited businessrelated courses.
Ateneo de Manila University is divided into two major schools of higher
education: the Loyola Schools, located in the Loyola Heights Campus, and the
1
Professional Schools, located in the Rockwell and Salcedo Campuses in Makati.
The Loyola Schools is the tertiary level school unit of the Ateneo de Manila
University that offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the Arts
and Sciences. It is composed of the School of Humanities, the John Gokongwei
School of Management, the School of Science and Engineering, and the School of
Social Sciences. Each undergraduate has a home base in a particular school. Still,
most preserve the diverse spectrum of interests that helped them get into Ateneo
in the first place, using electives to round out their studies.
The Ateneo Professional Schools is composed of the Ateneo Graduate School of
Business, Ateneo Information Technology Institute, Ateneo Law School and the
Ateneo School of Government.

Office of International Relations
Established in 1994, the Office of International Relations (formerly the Office of
International Programs) supports Ateneo de Manila University's growing
international linkages with universities, institutions, and organizations in Asia,
Australia, North and South America and Europe. Under these cooperative
relationships, the Ateneo has hosted visiting faculty and research fellows from
institutions abroad. In turn, Ateneo faculty members have availed themselves of
research grants and study programs in foreign countries. This international
cooperation also includes active student exchange. Student exchange hosted by
Ateneo takes two forms: one is the special Philippine Immersion Programs for a
month or two for a small group of fifteen to eighteen students. The other is the
usual exchange program where international students enroll for regular courses
7
during the semesters.

ACCELERATED MANAGEMENT CLASSES

FIN 120: FINANCIAL STATEMENT AND CREDIT ANALYSIS
Units: 3
Section: X
Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays | 8:00 – 10:30pm
Room: SOM 211
This course instructs the student how banks and creditors examine the credit worthiness of
potential/existing clients. Studies credit investigation, financial statement analyses, non-financial
considerations, account monitoring, and the necessary preparation to do a presentation before the
Credit Committee.
FIN 199.1: SPECIAL TOPICS IN FINANCE: PERSONAL FINANCE
Units: 3
Section: X
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays | 6:00-8:30pm
Room: SOM 211
The greatest concern that educators and academics have about the quality of today’s undergraduate
education is the relevance of the skills and techniques taught to the students’ needs, both now and in
the future. Indeed there is a reason to be quite alarmed. A lot of lecture-based classes at the
undergraduate level unwittingly reinforce a culture of mindlessness, teaching students to simply
memorize and regurgitate a whole slew of irrelevant and useless facts. After graduation, these same
students leave the classroom feeling somewhat shortchanged and frustrated with the time they wasted.
On the other hand, there is a lot of truly-interactive and experientially-oriented classes that expose
students to real-life issues that they will encounter throughout their professional and personal lives.
9
One such issue is Personal Financial Management and the values and attitudes that determine one’s
spending and saving habits what Robert Kiyosaki calls ‘financial literacy.’ Unfortunately, this area has
been relatively under-explored and underappreciated by academics and students, even as these same
skills are at the core of many of the business success stories that have taken place in the last two
centuries ESPECIALLY among the entrepreneurs. Students will do well to take these lessons to heart
early on in their lives, while they still have the time to plan for their future.
MKT122: BRAND MANAGEMENT
Units: 3
Section: X
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays | 3:30 – 6:00pm
Room: SOM 211
A hands-on approach to marketing management. This course outlines how basic marketing is applied to
actual products in the marketplace. Students are encouraged to think and decide like real-life marketing
professionals given specific brand assignments. Heavy emphasis is given to group dynamics in
approaching class projects.
MKT199Q: SPECIAL TOPICS IN MARKETING: MARKETING COMMUNICATION IN AN ASIAN CONTEXT
Units: 3
Section: X
Schedule: Monday and Wednesdays | 6:00pm – 8:30pm
Room: SOM 106
The course aims to introduce the student to the concept of integrated marketing communications (IMC),
the key role it plays in helping the brand achieve its marketing objectives and its importance in
delivering a distinct, consistent and compelling message about the company and its products.
Furthermore, the approach to this course will be from an Asian perspective with various Asian IMC
campaigns to be taken up as case studies.
Besides learning the basics of the communication cycle, students will also study the nature and function
of each tool within the integrated marketing communications process. Exposure to various IMC
campaigns conducted within Asia should help equip the student with the ability to formulate sound
marketing communications strategies by learning about the necessary communicational tools that
appear to be effective within an Asian context.
POM 125: BUSINES PROCESS RE-ENGINEERING
Units: 3
Section: X
Schedule: Monday and Wednesdays | 1:30pm – 4:00pm
Room: SOM 106
A study of the fundamentals of redesigning existing business processes and operating structure,
covering the core elements and general models of BPR. Cases featuring successful re-engineering
programs of different companies are also discussed.
10
ITM124: Information Technology & Business Strategy
Units: 3
Section: X
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays | 6:00pm - 8:30pm
Room: TBA
A generation ago computers were first introduced into businesses and organizations to automate
clerical functions and routine transactions. Today, information and communications technology (ICT) is
an integral part of organizations and forms the backbone for every managerial function of the modern
organization. Whether it be integrated ERP systems for operational control, improving customer
relationship management using data mining, launching a comprehensive Web-based human resource
management system, or executing financial transactions in electronic markets, modern information
systems (IS) are the life blood of the organization – linking all the different functions together in an
integrated way and getting information to decision makers at the right time and in the right format.
Indeed, nearly half of all new capital investment in U.S. businesses today is for information technology
and systems. The Internet, cloud, and mobile computing have also made strategic impacts on
businesses.
Innovative usage of information technology has allowed certain industry players to create or restructure
entire industries. Successfully competing in the information economy requires an understanding of how
ICT is part of the overall business strategy of the firm. This course examines how ICT can be used for
strategic gain, the evolution companies must take toward becoming e-businesses, new business models
that can be developed using ICT, and the importance of alignment the IS strategy with the overall
business strategy.
Business in the term “business strategy” in this course refers to both for-profit organizations and
development or non-profit organizations.
This course is a combination of lectures, seminar-type talks by guest speakers, and a high degree of case
analysis and discussion. Students will be expected to analyze the critical issues in a series of
management cases, including a final strategy formulation project, and be prepared to discuss their
analyses and recommendations in class.
LS 100: ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR
Units: 3
Sections: Y / Z
Schedules: Mondays and Wednesdays (1:30pm – 4:00pm) / Tuesdays and Thursdays (8:00-10:30am)
Room: SOM211
Organizational Behavior (OB) is a field of study that focuses on three primary determinants of
behavior in organizations: (a) the individual, (b) groups, and (c) structure. The goal is to make
organizations perform more effectively and efficiently in a sustainable manner. Robbins and Judge
argued that core topics in OB include “motivation, leader behavior and power, interpersonal
communication, group structure and processes, learning, attitude development and perception,
change processes, conflict, work design, and work stress.”
11
LS142 : CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNICATION
Units: 3
Section: Y
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays | 12:30pm – 3:00pm
Room: SOM 211
A course that explores how cultural differences- on the regional, national, corporate, and functional
levels- influence business work- styles and protocol, particularly communication, and how cross cultural
literacy contributes to success in the context of a diverse and globalized workplace.
LS130 : LEADERSHIP IN THE 21st CENTURY
Units: 3
Section: X
Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays | 7:30am – 10:00am
Room: SOM 106
Our course aims to introduce our class participants to the different types and styles of leadership and
prepare them for their future roles as managers in their respective organizations and communities.
