Dear Prospective volunteer,
The Great White Shark cage diving volunteer program is a shark research, ecotourism, naturalist and volunteer project operating in
Mossel Bay, South Africa. This program offers a diverse itinerary to suit the expectations of a broad cross-section of participants who share a passion for the oceans greatest marine predator – the great white shark. This program offers a hands-on approach to working not only with great white sharks, but also other regional species of sharks. The ultimate goals of the program are education, public awareness, the advancement of shark science and the conservation of all shark species.
As a Shark cage diving volunteer, you will be intensely involved in the daily operations of White Shark Africa; a world leading white shark cage diving ecotourism company. Volunteers will accompany us on our daily expeditions, participate in our daily operations, and receive expert training and guidance from our operations team. As part of the team on-board the boats, we will involve you in as many aspects of the day-to-day running of all operations as much as possible and we encourage you to be hands on. You are expected to participate in the following: data collection, cage diving, tagging, basic seamanship, boat and equipment maintenance, bait and chum work, assisting and educating tourists, marine conservation, education and being part of a team of like-minded people.

In addition, Shark Warrior volunteers will increase their practical skill set during tutorials and lectures from a variety of partners, including
Fiona Ayerst Underwater Photography ( www.fionaayerst.com
) who provides an intensive course on how to improve your DSLR photographic ability and Oceans Research ( www.oceansresearch.com
) who provides training in the art of photo identification of white sharks and marine mammals.
White Shark Africa is co-owned by Craig Ferreira and Christo Kruger.
Craig is a world leading authority on Great White sharks and speaks on these species around the world, and has featured in many documentaries since the early 90’s. Craig, along with his father Theo, pioneered most of the early research work on white sharks in South
Africa. Through this important work, Theo, together with scientist
Leonard Compagno, were instrumental and the driving force behind
South Africa becoming the first country in the world to secure full protection status for the white shark in 1991. Christo is a top shark handler, an avid marine conservationist, a very experienced skipper and spearheads the operation in Mossel Bay, South Africa.
Yours kindly,
Ryan Johnson
