LED Ornament
THE CHALLENGE:
Your task is to build an electronic Christmas tree ornament which you will decorate with LEDs
by constructing a simple series circuit.
Traditional shapes used for this project are things like a Christmas tree, angel, etc.
You will do the following steps, in order:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
draw your shape on the pressboard,
drill the holes for the LEDs using the drill press,
cut the shape out using the scroll saw,
paint your project
wire the LED’s and from long wire to short wire, leaving a long wire on one side, and a
short wire on the other
6. solder the LED’s
7. assemble and glue the LEDs to the pressboard
PARTS/TOOLS:
To complete this project, you will need the following components (these will be supplied in
class):
3 LEDs
One 9-volt battery snap
Ethernet wire
Solder iron
Solder
Wire cutters
Wire strippers
Pressboard
Hot glue gun
Safety glasses
All of the tools required to complete this project are available during class time. You will have to
determine how to wire up the circuit based on the breadboard diagram provided.
Good luck and happy building!!
