NADSFL began in 1984 with one facilitator and six
members. The founding members included Marty
Abbott, Christy Brown, Paul Garcia, John Harrison,
Mimi Met, and Maria Wilmeth.
In 1987 dues were $10 a year, and the Regional
Representatives came on board.
In 1988, NADSFL elected its first president
In 1993, membership rose to 135 members and
dues were $20 a year.
In 1999, the Supervisor of the Year Award was
developed and The Characteristics of Effective
Foreign Language Instruction were developed.
In 2001, Members Mentoring Members was
organized by Peggy Boyles.
In 2002, the NADSFL website was ready for use by
the membership .
In 2006, the first Summer Academy was held
with14 attendees.
Mission Statement
"The mission of the National Association of District
Supervisors of Foreign Language is to promote
excellence in foreign language education for all
learners through professional development of foreign language supervisors. The organization supports supervisors by facilitating member networking and communication, by promoting knowledge
of current initiatives, trends and research, and by
encouraging advocacy for foreign language learning at all levels."
