Read the following extract from Richard Wrights ‘Oh! Public
Performance’.
“Again I turned to the blackboard and lifted my hand to write, then I
was blank
and void within . I tried frantically to collect my senses but I could
remember nothing.”
This was Richard Wright’s experience when his teacher asked him
to write his name and address on the blackboard on his first day in school.

letter to the editor of a newspaper regarding the negligent attitude of the younger
generation towards the elders. here is an extract from the letter.
In today’s world, family relations is not as strong as they used to be.
The youth of today are not respectful and loving of their parents. They do not
need their mother any more expect for making a cup of tea or ironing their clothes.
We has a responsibility to love our parents.
Identify the errors (four in numbers) and correct them.

Mumbai, January 4 : Three students including a eleven year
old reality show star committed suicide in the past two days here, police said on
Monday. Neha, a student of a dance academy had participated in three TV dance
reality shows. Police suspect she might have taken the step after her family took
her out of the dance academy as they wanted her to concentrate on studies.
Individuals who tune into reality television programmes are shown what is
perceived as reality, when in essence it really isn’t. Do you agree with the above
statement ? If yes, write four points supporting the statement. If No, write four
points refuting etc.

Read the interesting anecdote given below and based on it, answer the
questions that follow:On his visit to India, Alexander, the great found that the Indians
were a race of brave, fearless people. He made friends with them. When he was
about to return to Greece, he decided to take an Indian Yogi with him so that his
countrymen may receive his blessings. In a thick forest, he met a yogi in deep
meditation. When the Yogi opened his eyes, Alexander requested him to
accompany him to his homeland. The Yogi refused Alexander flew into a rage.
Unsheathing his sword, he thundered, “ I am
the great king Alexander. If you
will not listen to me, I shall cut you into pieces”.
Unperturbed, the Yogi said, “You say, you are a king. Really you are a
slave of my slave. I have mastered anger. Anger is my slave. You are a slave of
anger and you are a slave of my slave”.
