iv. **Gather your ideas/notes for making presentation to your parents
that would explain to them how proteins are made and why the
topic is important to them. Then make the presentation to Mr.
Mott.**

iii. **After participation in DNA Extraction lab from human saliva or
fruit, write a 3 paragraph summary of what you observed.
C. Critical Thinking & Analysis of Real World Issues –
Pick 1 assignment (20 pts.)
a. Find 3 Current Events from Newspaper that relates to DNA. Highlight 5
most important sentences and write at least a half-page summary for
each article. (Be sure to: attach article/copy of article, include proper
citation of the newspaper article.)
b. 2 Resources (Source #1 – Title, Website, Author, Date of Article, and
Summary, Repeat for Source #2), 1 page paper or 6-slide PowerPoint, 1st
paragraph must contain the introduction, 2nd paragraph gives the
information (pro and con), last paragraph gives conclusion and opinion on
one of the questions posed below:
i. Can mutations be helpful or are they always bad? Explain with 2
specific mutation examples.
ii. Research Human Genome Project. When was it finished? What
were its goals? Who was involved in it? What are the possible
benefits of mapping the Human Genome?
iii. Research proteomics. Explain what it is and what its use might be
in the future of medicine. Describe one of the main companies
currently working in the field of proteomics.
c. Write/podcast/video an original story/play that involves DNA structural
components as characters – include references to (5) structures and
functions of those components. (at least 350 words or 1 page typed for
storyboard)
d. Protein Production Video News Cast – or written News script about
some imaginary crisis in the production of protein in a local cell. This
must be informative and include discussion of structure and function of
DNA, RNA, Transcription, and Translation
