DIRECTIONS FOR USE
RECOMMENDATION
It is strongly recommended to use cartridges/sausages with the same batch number since slightly colour
variations may occur from different productions batches.
ADHESION AND PRIMING
Both curing and adhesion is dependent on sufficient amount of moisture and the temperature. The sealant is
depending on the moisture condition in the air. If the relative humidity is low (below 50 % RH) as often through
the winter time the sealant will need more time to cure. In the summer time the temperature and the relative
humidity is often high (above 50 % RH) and the sealant will cure faster. If S 20 is applied under dry conditions or
between water tight materials, extra time or moisture might be necessary to obtain optimum cure and adhesion.
The adhesion is excellent to most building materials.

SUBSTRATES
The adhesion to most metals is excellent. Raw aluminium can give adhesion loss after
exposure to corrosive environment. Fasadfog S 20 does not bond to lead.
The adhesion to wood is generally good. Priming is recommended for wet conditions.
Fasadfog S 20 bonds to glass without primer. For glass constructions with high UV-exposure
on the bond line, S 20 is not recommended.
Fasadfog S 20 bonds to unplasticised PVC, polyester, epoxy, polyurethane, melamine, etc.
Pre-testing is recommended on acrylic, ABS, styrene, polycarbonate and plasticised PVC.
The adhesion to polyethylene, polypropylene and fluorinated plastics is low.
Concrete and other alkaline substrates used outdoors and in wet surroundings, must always
be primed. Other porous materials might need priming if the surface is weak.
Granite and marble does not need primer.
PRE-TREATMENT
The joint interface must be clean, dry and free from oils, loose aggregates, laitance, release agents,
waterproofing and other contaminants. A thorough wire brushing, grinding, sand blasting or solvent cleaning
may be required to expose clean, sound surfaces. Apply a joint backing rod of foamed polyethylene that is
approx. 25 % wider than the joint. If the available space does not allow a backing rod, prevent adhesion to the
bottom of the joint with Joint tape (Fogtejp) 6196 or 6198.

APPLICATION AND CL EANING INST RUCTIONS
APPLICATION
Apply the sealant using a caulking gun. The material must be pressed firmly into the joint to ensure complete
wetting of the bonding surface.
Immediately after application, tooling is recommended to ensure firm, full contact with joint sides. Take care not
to contaminate open joint with water. Use pure water or water with a small amount of soap/detergent. Too much
soap can affect the tack free time.
CLEANING
Remove all excess sealant adjacent to joint and on equipment prior to cure with a rag. White spirit or technical
ethanol is used if necessary. Seal Remover 3987 can be tried if the sealant has cured, otherwise cured sealant
is removed mechanically.
On skin, uncured sealant is wiped off with a rag, then wash with soap and water.
PAINTABILITY
It is not recommended to overpaint an elastic sealant, since it reduces the joint movement capability. Fasadfog
S 20 is however compatible with most dispersion based paints. Pre-testing is always recommended. The drying
time for alkyd and oil based paints might be extended.
SPECIAL COL OURS
Fasadfog S 20 can be ordered in special colours if the quantity is equal to one batch = 1200 litre (approx. 3600
cartridges or 1800 x 600 ml sausages). Each such order must be agreed with the Nordic marketing team and
R&D Nacka, to make sure that delivery time and colour specification can be met.
LIMITATIONS
Fasadfog S 20 is not recommended for:
– Surfaces exposed to mechanical wear, e.g. pedestrian or other traffic.
– Structural or butt glazing, or other applications where UV light can affect the adhesion.
– Constant water immersion
– Joints less than 5 mm in width or depth.
– Swimming pools and similar with water containing chlorine based disinfectants.
– To avoid the risk for a dirty joint we recommend our Multibygg S 30 or an acrylic sealant when sealing
indoor.
