Poetry Portfolio Checklist

advertisement
Dear Parents/Guardians and Students:
Each year, during the end of the 4th quarter, I have my students complete a poetry portfolio.
During the time they are working on this project I will be giving them notes in class and
allowing them to start each section of the portfolio during class time. We will be working on
this during our Reading time.
 Notes and “sloppy copies” of poems are graded as class-work.
 Each individual type of poem will need a final finished copy.
This will be counted as homework.
 The portfolio in its entirety will count as a test grade. The test grade will be
determined through the use of the rubric found on the back of this letter. The rubric is
part of the grade and should not be removed from the portfolio.
The final part of this project is for the student to write a short paragraph (five- ten
sentences) in PSSA format about which type of poem was their favorite to write and why.
The poem they chose will be presented orally to the class along with their explanation of
why they chose it. This is to practice elocution and public speaking. The student will be
graded on their performance according to an oral presentation rubric. The grade earned on
that rubric for the oral presentation will be counted as a second test grade.
If you have any questions about this project, please do not hesitate to contact me through
the agenda or by email at beluskop@hasdk12.org. I will get back to you as soon as possible.
Watch the agenda closely for due dates and please check on my website for updates and
assignments. Everything the students need to succeed in this project can be found on my
website. Absenteeism is not an excuse for missed work. Everything is posted daily!
I have been doing this project for many years and each year I am impressed and proud of
the work that my students produce. I am looking forward to another great round of poetry
portfolios this year!
Sincerely,
-Miss Belusko

Poetry Portfolio Grading Rubric/Checklist (Class-work, Test and Homework Grade)
To get full credit on your final poetry portfolio submission it must contain all of the following list in the order they
appear. This portfolio is worth a total of 100 points. Each part is worth 5 points (1 for having it completed properly
according to directions, 1 for neatness & completeness, 1 for spelling & grammar, 1 for order and 1 for being on time).
Handing in the entire portfolio on time is worth 5 points as well. If you do not have it the day it is due you will lose all
five points! The completed portfolio must be handed in on time and contain all of the above-mentioned elements. It
must be in order! BE PREPARED! WORDS IN BOLD PRINT ARE THE SUBJECTS for your headings. THEY
SHOULD BE COPIED EXACTLY! Good luck, and have fun! Be creative!
