2016 Scholarships Guide Transform Your Future Achieve your study ambitions with an RMIT scholarship Each year thousands of scholarships are awarded to new students across RMIT programs. Scholarships can help to cover study costs such as textbooks, materials, rent and living expenses. Some RMIT scholarships are academic-based; others are equity-based according to your personal circumstances. These include financial disadvantages, relocating from rural areas to Melbourne, being an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, or living with a long-term medical condition that impacts your study. While some scholarships are only available for particular study areas, there are general scholarships applicable to all study areas. How to find the right scholarship Browse through the scholarships on offer in this guide and go to www.rmit.edu.au/Scholarships to learn the details. You may need to apply through the Victorian Tertiary Admission Centre (VTAC) or directly to RMIT. If you are eligible for multiple scholarships, please apply for all by the due dates. While RMIT endeavours to grant as many scholarships as possible, not all applications will be successful. Applications are assessed and ranked according to the selection criteria. For more information about the application process, visit each individual scholarship webpage. 1 Academic Achievement Scholarships RMIT Achievement Scholarship ELIGIBLE COURSES George Alexander Foundation Scholarship Associate or bachelor degree courses ELIGIBLE COURSES MAIN ELIGIBILITY Two-year diploma/advanced diploma courses ––Australian or New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian permanent resident or humanitarian visa MAIN ELIGIBILITY ––Australian citizen ––Excellent Year 12 ATAR results ––Excellent Year 12 ATAR results VALUE ––Active community participation and leadership skills $10,000 per annum for standard full-time duration of course APPLICATIONS Not required–applications automatically assessed based on your ATAR results MORE INFORMATION www.rmit.edu.au/scholarships/ Achievement VALUE $7500 per annum for two years APPLICATIONS Direct to RMIT MORE INFORMATION www.rmit.edu.au/scholarships/GAF RMIT Merit Equity Scholarship ELIGIBLE COURSES Associate or bachelor degree courses MAIN ELIGIBILITY ––Australian or New Zealand citizen or holder of an Australian permanent resident or humanitarian visa ––Excellent Year 12 ATAR results ––Financial or educational disadvantage VALUE $6000 per annum for standard full-time duration of course, plus a $5000 overseas study allowance APPLICATIONS Through VTAC MORE INFORMATION www.rmit.edu.au/scholarships/ME Student Profile I gave Year 12 everything, and ended up getting the RMIT Achievement Scholarship. Now I’m living around the corner, so I can walk to uni every day. It’s amazing. Scholarships reward the hard workers and the disadvantaged, creating an even playing field. It’s good for my academic life, but is also important for my social life. It means I can get involved and make friends that last for life. It’s a big thing to have Aboriginal students complete their tertiary education, but it should be a given. Having access to many labs creates a practical learning environment, and helps students understand what working in the clinical arena is like. I’ve had to fly home quite a bit, and that’s expensive. This has helped me to not be broke and starving! The Bachelor of Arts course is intense and time consuming. If I had to work I couldn’t focus on my study – it would be so hard. The payments help me pay for my art supplies, rent, groceries and things like that. Scholarships are important because they allow people to study to the best of their ability. Living in the RMIT village rent-free was fantastic. If you’re like me, a country student moving away from where you’ve always had your family around you, and coming to the big city – it can be a very difficult thing. The scholarship helped me to settle in, and meant I could study what I really wanted to do.
