Some of our services include career exploration tools, career path advisement, career seminars and workshops as well as networking and employer recruitment events. In this video orientation, you will learn about our services and resources as well as our expectations for you while in our centers. It is important for you to know that WorkForce One is not a staffing agency. Unlike staffing agencies, which are able to directly place you in available jobs, WorkForce One provides the tools for employment and success, but YOU land the job. WorkForce One is also not the unemployment office. However, we do provide computers with internet access that you can use to file your claim. In addition, we have representatives who are available to assist with filing claims, looking up claim status, or providing follow-up contact information. These representatives are not able to process claims or resolve claim issues. To best take advantage of our career centers it is important that you pay attention to the material covered in this video. During the video, special graphics will display questions related to the topics covered in each section of this video presentation. You will be given multiple choices for the answers to these questions. In order to complete this video course you must successfully answer all the questions. However, after each question, you will be shown the correct answer. Please take special note of these graphics and write down the correct answers, as you will be asked each question again at the end of the video presentation. Upon successful completion, you will be able to display and print out a certificate of completion. WorkForce One North is located in Pompano Beach. WorkForce One central is located on Oakland Park Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. And WorkForce One South is located in Hollywood. (Show address on screen) Extended Hours of Service In order to better serve our customers all WorkForce One centers now have extended hours. We are opened on Mondays through Thursdays from 8 AM to 7 PM and on Fridays from 8 AM to 5 PM. During weeks with a legal holiday, all centers will operate from 8 AM to 5 PM and will close on the holiday. For instance, if Memorial Day falls on Monday, the centers will be closed on Monday and the schedule of operation for the remainder of the week will be 8 AM. to 5 PM. The center will return to its regular schedule the following week. Dress Code If you are coming to any of our centers, WorkForce One requires that all participants dress in business casual attire. For our male customers this means dress slacks or khakis with a dress shirt. Sweaters, either pull over or cardigan type and dress shoes or dress boots. For our female customers this means dresses and skirts at or below the knee, dress slacks, or dress suits. Sweaters and blouses, dress pumps, sandals, boots, or flats. Please dress appropriately and conduct yourselves in a professional business like manner as we often have employers in our centers looking to interview applicants on the spot. WorkForce One has employers that come to our centers every week. Many times they come in and take applications directly, possibly scheduling face-to-face meetings with someone from the human resource department. For this reason we want you to be dressed in business casual attire. You do not get a second chance to make a first impression. WorkForce One is in the business of employment. Many employers have a relationship with us. They might have a job that is not posted. Many times they ask us about personal referrals and what we know about you. Now back to you in the studio. In the past, you could come to WorkForce One and get the WIC program or we helped young families or we provided unemployment claims. We still have many of those programs however; we have grown and expanded our services. Today, WorkForce One works with companies and organizations in Broward County that are involved with the design and the future of the county. Over the years WorkForce One has developed many new services that are available at no cost to you. WorkForce One has a business outreach staff which assist businesses in designing different jobs. When these jobs are created, our outreach staff brings them back to WorkForce One were they are made available to you through our job board system, the Employ Florida Marketplace, which we will cover shortly. We provide services to anyone, in any situation. Even if you are unemployed, laid off, transitioning from one job to another, underemployed, youth - age 16 to 21, an older adult age 55 or older, or anyone in between we can help. You just have to have a desire to work! Whether you are a professional or non-professional, these tools and services are provided to you at no cost. Cut to Field Reporter Resource Center Let’s discuss the free tools available to you in our Resource Center! When you come into a WorkForce One Career center you will encounter the Resource Center. This is where you can sign up for the many workshops that are available at WorkForce One. In addition to registering for workshops, this is also where you will be able to access computers, printers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, as well as web access. All of the equipment here are of commercial grade and you are welcome to use them as much as you like for a job related activities, at no cost to you. This means that you can make copies of your resume, but you can not make copies of a recipe for instance. As long as it's work-related, we will allow you to make phone calls to employers for a job interview, or fax your resume to an employer and call him/her to ensure that it was received. In addition we have a very professional, helpful staff who can answer your questions. And we provide one-on-one career counseling services. Resource Center Code of Conduct The Resource Center is for Job search activities only. Personal or private small business use is not allowed. When in the Resource Center, please adhere to Resource Center equipment usage and time limits. There may be times during the day where computer usage is at a peak and we may limit the amount of time you can use a computer. However, later in the day as usage becomes available again you will be able to use the computer as much as you want. We ask that you respect the privacy of other job seekers using the equipment in our Resource Center. For your safety and out of respect for all customers, food, and drinks, are not allowed in the Resource Center, and in addition, we ask you to keep a close eye on your children at all times. EFM is the State of Florida's employment website or job bank. It is owned and maintained by the state of Florida, and has thousands of jobs available on it. It is setup in the same way as monster.com and other similar job sites. You have to register, by creating in a username, and a password to enter the site. Once inside you will be able to access thousands of jobs. EFM will be your best friend. You will be able to go into the system from time to time to research careers, check out education and training programs, and search for jobs anywhere in the state. You can even narrow your search. Let's say you only want to work in Fort Lauderdale. You can search for jobs only in Fort Lauderdale or you can search by a particular ZIP code. You can also create job searches to run automatically and set up automatic notifications. Let's say you're an office manager, and you want to work in Fort Lauderdale. You can set up the system so that when an office manager job is created in Fort Lauderdale, the system will send you a notification. This is a very powerful tool. The system will work best for those who have uploaded or created a resume on EFM. We have noticed over the years that people looking for employment always seem to stumble in three specific areas. The first area is that they do not know where to go to find the job that they want or where the jobs are located. 50% of all jobs are never advertised. You're not going to find out about them in the paper, on the radio or TV. There is no way to learn about these positions unless you know the right people. WorkForce One has a workshop that helps address this issue. It is called the Action Workshop (job search process). The second area where job seekers often stumble is on their resume. WorkForce One has designed a resume workshop that will teach you how to create and produce a professional resumes, that will get you noticed and maybe even hired! The third area where people stumble is in the interviewing process. Closing on a job is critical to completing the hiring process. The interviewing workshop helps prepare you to close and obtain a job in today's workplace. We will teach you how a great interview is really about creating a positive impression and wowing the hiring manager. Impress them and they will want to hire you. In this workshop, there is a lot of information on what to do and how to prepare yourself for a successful interview. In addition to all of this, we have a computer lab. Here you can test some of the skills that you have and possibly upgrade them. Let's say for example that you want to learn more about Excel or you want to test and upgrade your typing skills. You can go into the lab and learn more about these subjects. We also have an Internet workshop. This workshop will cover things like current hot topics and sites on the Internet such as LinkdIn, and Facebook, and how you can successfully use these sites and information in your job search. At WorkForce One our workshops are offered in the morning and afternoon sessions, several times a week at each career center. All of the workshops that we've discussed so far are 2 to 3 hours in length. A workshop schedule is available on the WorkForce One website or you may pick up a center’s workshop schedule at the front desk. Please be aware that the schedule for our workshops may vary monthly. WorkForce One does offer an extended job search workshop called the PPN Workshop. The professional placement network workshop is a 12 hours long workshop that meets for three days for four hours a day. It includes subjects such as goal setting, networking strategies, proactive action plans, interviewing and negotiating techniques, effective search methods, and developing a winning resume. The workshop has a few basic requirements. First, participants must have had an annual salary of more than $35,000, or five years of supervisory experience or a bachelors degree. WorkForce One can connect job seekers with internal and external resources to help them with the various challenges that they may face. This could include people experiencing: disabilities, criminal histories, substance abuse, homelessness, etc…. Feel free to talk to your case manager about any problems you may be facing; he/she can refer you to the appropriate resources for assistance. For example, if you have a visual impairment; you may be referred to our computers with larger print, on the other hand, if you have a hearing impairment, we have TTY lines available at our centers. Maybe there is something that is making it difficult for a customer to come to a WorkForce One Career center, like the need for a wheelchair, or maybe a for need transportation assistance. Even if an interpreter is needed, we can assist in all of these instances. If we don't have the service here at WorkForce One, our staff will connect the customer with the right service provider within our community. If you have a criminal history, we have staff members who have been trained to work with customers such as yourself. They will work to see what can be done to alleviate the barrier that your background might create in getting you employed. Whatever the case, WorkForce One Employment Solutions can assist you in finding a solution. That's our business. Cut to Studio Anchor Reporter - Female Additional Services AARP This is a training and employment program for Broward County residents, 55 years of age or older. We can assist those that qualify with their resume, help them get additional training, or help them obtain part-time or full-time work. Federal Bonding Program This program assist ex-offenders and others secure job placement by guaranteeing their trustworthiness as an employee. Interview Attire WorkForce One assists eligible individuals in getting appropriate interviewing attire if they do not have one. For example if you get a call today for a possible interview tomorrow and you do not have a jacket, or you do not have the right clothing, we can help. If we have the clothing available and we can fit you, we will give it to you at no charge. Veterans Services WorkForce One is dedicated to assisting veterans with employment and training opportunities. Representative are provided to assist veterans customers with services such as counseling, labor market information, job referrals, job search workshops, and job development with potential employers and more. One-stop Disability Services Coordinator Every WorkForce One center has a Disability Services coordinator. This Coordinators provide customers with disabilities and special needs information regarding programs and services, offering them aid in many forms. If you are a person with a disability and need assistance to access programs and services, please see the front desk to inquire about this service. Customers must meet the eligibility requirements. If you intend to go to school or attend an educational program, then the Career Development Department provides the services that will assist you. Everyone in this program is assigned a WIA case manager. WIA stands for Workforce Investment Act. There are basic eligibility requirements. This will be covered in the WIA online video course. Cut to Studio Anchor Reporter - Female Non-traditional Occupations for Women Non-traditional occupations for women is an occupation in which women comprise 25% or less of all total employment in that occupation. These jobs are in all major occupational groups and provide many unique employment options for women. All are attractive because they offer higher entry-level wages with pay ranging between $20-$30 per hour. Some examples of non-traditional jobs for women include detectives, architects, chefs, barbers, clergy, computer and office machine repairs, construction and building inspectors, railroad conductors, machinists, truck drivers, firefighters, aircraft pilots, construction occupations and small engine mechanics just to name a few. On the other hand there are non-traditional occupations for men as well, for example nursing. Many years ago most nurses were female; however, today many males are in that role. It's a great career, and there is a lot of room for advancement. There are a lot of careers that you may not have thought of. For instance, woman can be master plumbers – and own their own company and be very successful. Sometimes we have preconceived ideas of what it takes to begin a career, so do your research. Pick a career that you like and that you will enjoy. If you spend your time in the right program doing what you love, you are more likely to be successful at it. Now the beauty of this is that you can access EFM anywhere in the world. Even when visiting family outside of the country, you can still access jobs in the state of Florida, whenever you want. So you see we are seeking a long-term relationship with you. This is something you can use for the rest of your life, and make it work for you. You want to keep logging on to EFM, you want to make it your best friend. The Employ Florida Marketplace, EFM allows customers to receive automatic notifications of new job matches. For instance, if you are an accountant, you can set up the system to alert you whenever an accountant job has been posted - and in any city in the state of Florida that you like. The system will send you a notification. You can upload up to 10 professional resumes using this online system. How many of you have had more than one career? For example, I was in the hospitality industry for 15 years and had a resume for a hospitality job. I also had experience in finance, so I created a resume for finance as well. I was open to working in the hospitality industry or in finance. You can have resumes for more than one job if you have the experience. This will maximize your exposure to employers and our county and the whole state. Now, some of you may be thinking why would I do that? When employers see all four resumes they will think I'm a jack of all trades. This is where the system really works for you. Employers will not see all four resumes. They will only see the one that they are looking for. You also should complete the skills assessments and the transferable skills analysis sections. The first time you go on EFM it is very important for you to complete the skills analysis sections thoroughly because our recruiters here at WorkForce One use those skills sections to refer employers who log on to EFM looking for employees to you. Upon successfully completing the test please print your certificate. You should then take your completed certificate to a WorkForce One's center nearest you. First you will meet with an assessment case manager to determine your interests, aptitude and/or skill needs. After that will be assigned to a personal case manager who will work with you to create a strategy geared especially for your circumstances. A copy of your certificate will be retained in your file.
