TANJUNG OFFSHORE BERHAD
JOINT NEWS RELEASE
DAYEN PATENTED OIL-IN-WATER SEPARATION TECHNOLOGY
TO MAKE INROAD INTO MALAYSIA
THROUGH EXCLUSIVE TIE-UP WITH TANJUNG OFFSHORE
Singapore, 23 September 2008 - Singapore SGX Catalist-listed, Dayen Environmental
Limited (“Dayen”, “The Company” or “The Group”), one of Asia’s leading water and
wastewater treatment companies, has inked a landmark agreement with Tanjung Offshore
Berhad (“Tanjung Offshore”), a Malaysia-based company listed in the Main Board of Bursa
Securities.
Under the agreement signed by Dayen Oil Water Technologies Pte Ltd, a
subsidiary of Dayen, Tanjung Offshore will be the exclusive marketing and business
development partner for Dayen patented revolutionary oil-in-water separation technology in
Malaysia.
John Lee, Dayen Executive Chairman said, “Dayen has developed and patented this
technology for oil-in-water separation, which will greatly benefit companies that need to treat
produced water in an efficient and cost-effective way that meets and exceeds tighter
legislative laws on discharges into the sea. We hope to share our expertise and bring this
proprietary technology to prospective clients globally. Whilst we continue to focus on
research and development as well as engineering, we will be seeking established and
reputable companies overseas to help us in marketing and developing business
opportunities for the systems and technologies that we have developed. In this respect, we
are pleased to partner Tanjung Offshore and are confident that its far-reaching network and
extensive track records will help Dayen in securing a foothold in oil-in-water separation
business in the Malaysia market.”
Omar Khalid, Tanjung Offshore Managing Director said, “Malaysia has a good number of
producing oil fields and producing gas fields located offshore Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah
and Sarawak. Major operating companies are Petronas, Amerada Hess, BP, ExxonMobil,
Lundin Oil, Murphy Oil and Shell. Malaysia is developing new deep water fields such as
Kikeh, Gumusut, Kakap and Malikai, and has more than 250 existing platforms with an
estimated 65 new platforms coming on stream in the next 5 years. The existing and new
platforms represent a bright market outlook for Tanjung Offshore and Dayen.”
Dayen’s technology for oil-in-water separation, termed “DECORE + POREFLON®” can treat
produced water from offshore platform, separating oil from discharged water and reducing
the average oil content of a discharge to less than 1ppm. This differs from current oil-inwater separation technology where the average oil content of the discharge is in the range of
30 to 50ppm. The DECORE + POREFLON® technology can treat produced water in an
effective and inexpensive manner, and the treated water can be disposed of safely without
harmful effects on the environment. The water can be further treated for use in irrigation for
bio-fuel crops and salt-tolerant poplar forest or for conversion into commercial grade mineral
products, thus creating a value stream for companies.
Dayen’s Oil-in-Water technology has been rolled out successfully on a commercial basis,
and it boasts a current clientele that includes international MNCs like Petroleum
Development Oman which is owned by the Government of Oman, Royal Dutch Shell, Total
and Partex, located in Nimr Oil Field, and SBM Offshore/Petronas Carigali Turkmenistan,
owned by Petronas, in a Mobile Oil Production Unit located offshore Caspian Sea.
Produced water is water trapped in underground formations that is brought to the surface
along with oil or gas during the drilling process. It is the largest volume of byproduct or waste
stream associated with oil and gas exploration and production.
