RATE is dedicated to providing the most current and up-to-date professional and continuing
education to meet the educational need of scientists and engineers in New Jersey. We offer
courses in various disciplines from Engineering, Bio & Life Science, Info-Technology, and Entrepreneurship. RATE has formed many strategic alliances, such as with IEEE Education Partners
and the New York State Education Department as an accredited PDH provider. We are also
affiliated with numerous professional organizations at Rutgers such as the Center for Management Development and the NJAES Cook Continuing Education Program.
The New Face of RATE
In addition to our FE and PE Review Courses we have introduced a number of new continuing
education courses and certificates in areas such as Digital Speech Processing, Wireless Sensor
Networks, Quality & Reliability Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Programming,
Crystallography for Modelers, and Human Computer Interaction (HCI).
We also have many courses in development including Infrastructure Project Planning, Infrastructure Sensors, Requirements Writing & Analysis, Entrepreneurship, and Java Programming.

an active presence on campus,
promoting continuous and
professional education.
Rutgers Day, April 25th,
2009. RATE was part of the
first annual, multi-campus,
community driven Rutgers
Day.
Located at the Fiber
Optics Patio on Busch Campus, RATE offered rides on a
Segway while educating and
connecting with students and
the surrounding community.
Rutgers Entrepreneurship
Day, May 13, 2009. Over 600
people attended Entrepreneurship Day, hosted by the BEST
Institute and co-sponsored by
RATE. The highlights of the
day were featured speakers
William “Bill” Joy and Greg
Olsen, a panel discussion with
Randal Pinkett, Dan Hoffman,
Lexy Funk, and David H. Edwab, and the Ninth Annual
Business Plan Competition.
The New Jersey Collegiate
Career Day, May 28th, 2009.
RATE will continue to maintain its presence on campus
and throughout the New Jersey Community. Recent events

Upcoming Courses
Entrepreneurship Bootcamp is the
first course in the Entrepreneurship
Certificate Program. This course will
provide the real world skills and resources to start your own business. The
instructors are Mr. Braun Kiess, CFO of
Rainbow Direct and Rick Mammone,
Ph.D., Executive Director of the BEST
Institute and Director of the CAIP Center.
GUI Programming with Java
using Eclipse will teach you to build
graphical user interfaces and web programs using the highly popular Eclipse
development environment. Students
will work with the Java Swing Library,
servlets, script, HTML, CSS, and Tomcat. The instructor for the course is
Sesh Venugopal, Ph.D., founder of the
Computer Science Advisory Board.
Mini-Masters in Human Computer Interaction (HCI) an immersive experience that shows how and
where Human Computer Interaction
fits in the software process. It explains
the underlying psychology and sociology
that guides user design, and demonstrates common techniques for making
an interface usable. The instructor for
the course is Marilyn Tremaine, Ph.D.

Mechanical Engineering PE Review will meet weekly on Mondays for
twelve sessions. August 3-October
19, 2009.
Civil Engineering PE Review will
meet weekly on Tuesdays for fourteen
sessions. July 21-October 20, 2009.
Electrical Engineering PE Review
will meet weekly on Wednesdays for
thirteen sessions. July 29-October 21,
2009.
Fundamentals of Engineering FE
(EIT) Review will meet twice weekly
on Tuesdays and Thursdays for seventeen sessions from August 25October 20,2009.
