Paying for college
Transfer options
Many students don’t realize that they qualify for free
federal and state monies to help pay their tuition and other
costs associated with attending college. All students,
regardless of income, should complete the federal Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Financial
Aid Office recommends that you complete the FAFSA
electronically at www.normandale.edu/financialaid
for the quickest processing of your application.
Normandale Community College makes transferring easy with the
Minnesota Transfer Curriculum (MnTC). The MnTC is a general education
curriculum that transfers in its entirety to Minnesota State Colleges and
Universities System (MnSCU), four-year state universities and the University
of Minnesota. In addition, many agreements exist to simplify the process
for students transferring to most private colleges and universities.
Grants
Steps to enroll
Grants are given by the state or federal governments and
do not need to be repaid.
1) Visit the Normandale campus
Loans
We offer “Getting Started” information sessions, tours
and Open House events. The atmosphere is informal
with plenty of time for questions. Visit our website at
www.normandale.edu/visit for dates and times, or call
(952) 358-8201.
2) Apply for admission and financial aid
Complete the Application for Admission and pay the
required $20 non-refundable application fee online at
www.normandale.edu/admissions/apply.
Apply for financial aid at
www.normandale.edu/financialaid.
3) Take the Course Readiness Assessment
Your academic skills in math, reading and writing
will be assessed to determine the
right level of introductory courses for
you. These placement tests help assure
that as long as you apply yourself,
you will get your college career off
to the best possible start. Further
information about placement tests will
be sent with your admissions
acceptance letter. This letter will
provide information about when you
can take the required placement tests
at your convenience.
4) Attend an Advising and
Registration event and
complete the online orientation
Advising and Registration events have two parts.
The first session provides general information about
academic expectations, student activities and
academic support services at Normandale. Then,
students meet with counselors in small groups for
advising and assistance in their initial course selection
and registration. Specific information about college
policies, procedures, transportation options, paying
tuition and much more is provided 24/7/365 through
our online orientation.
Our low cost makes exploration much more affordable, and our career
planning experts, student services advisors and counselors can help you
identify your educational and career goals along the way.
Loans are given by banks, private lending institutions or, in
some cases, the state or federal government and must be
repaid after you leave college.
Normandale is the largest provider of transfer students to many area
public and private colleges and universities such as:
• University of Minnesota
• Minnesota State University—Mankato
• St. Cloud State University
• Hamline University
• University of St. Thomas
Work study
Guaranteed admission to the U of M
Work study allows students to apply for paid employment
and work experience on the college campus.
Through the Minnesota Cooperative Admissions Program (MnCAP), you will
be guaranteed transfer admission to one of the participating colleges of the
University of Minnesota, as long as you complete your Associate of Arts (A.A.)
degree or the MnTC at Normandale and maintain a cumulative grade point
average (GPA) of C or higher. Speak with one of our Admissions
Representatives at (952) 358-8201 for more information.
