Holiday House books have always been aligned with the Standards. Now we are offering educators suggestions for connecting various books with the Common Core State Standards for Reading Informational Texts, Reading Literature, Reading Foundational Skills, Writing, Speaking and Listening, and Language. Reading Standards: Foundational Skills Kindergarten: Phonics and Word Recognition K.RF.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. K.RF.3a Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary sound for each consonant. K.RF.3b Associate the long and short sounds with common spellings for the five major vowels. K.RF.3c Read common high-frequency words by sight.
