V for Vendetta Essay Topics - C’mon you knew it was coming
Directions: You will write a well developed two page essay about the movie and graphic
novel. The piece must be typed and formatted using MLA specifications. Please pick
one of these topics as a basis of your essay. A hand written rough draft will also be due
for points.
1. V for Vendetta is a controversial piece of literature and film entertainment. It
promotes terrorism, defaces American ideals, and promotes a dangerous political
message for young adults.
-You can either support or discredit this statement by citing specific elements
from the graphic novel and/or the film version of the movie.
-Also, you may write an opinion piece from your own personal beliefs using
specific elements from the book and/or movie.
2. V for Vendetta should be part of school curriculum because it is a piece of literature
that is important to have exposure with. Even though some parts of the piece can be
deemed controversial, or adult in nature, most young adults should be exposed to this
type of art because it is avant-garde and a valid learning tool.
- You can support this statement by citing specific elements from the graphic
novel.
- You can write an essay that is the flipside and argues against the book being
a valid form of literature and is not an educational tool to be used in school
citing specifics from the graphic novel.
3. Is V a villain or a hero, or is he something else altogether?
- You need to support your argument citing specific elements from the book.
Your point of view needs to be well developed and strait to the point, stay away
from gibberish in your writing.
4. Which was better, the graphic novel or movie version of the story? Why?
- Support your argument without using opinion in your essay, stay away from
describing or retelling the plot, and you may not use the actors as a basis for
your piece. You may cite specific parts from the graphic novel and movie.
5. V for Vendetta is not only a valuable piece of literature but is also important to the art
community as well.
- This is targeted more towards people who have an art background. However if
you choose this you must cite art specific terms, perspectives, and techniques. I
will have this essay double checked by the Art department. Make sure it is well
developed.
6. Does V have to die in the end? Would the story benefit from keeping the main
character alive to promote his agenda? Or is his death a type of self restraining
technique?
