Princeton: Princeton University Press, 1945
Signed by 18 members of the Berkeley Lab, where the fuel for the atomic bomb was created,
to be mated with the casing devised at Los Alamos. On the half-title it is signed by Berkeley
Lab Director Ernest O. Lawrence, and on the facing leaf (front endpaper verso) by 17 other
scientists - most from the Berkeley Lab - involved in the Manhattan Project, including Donald
Cooksey; W.B. Reynolds; Wm. Parkins; Ted Finkelstein; Frank Oppenheimer; K.R. McKenzie;
E.J. Lofgren; Edwin McMillan; A.C. Helmholz; and a few others. Taped to the front pastedown
is a photograph, reduced, of an award certificate that was signed by Secretary of War Henry
Stimson, awarded to the University of California for “valuable service rendered to the Nation
on work essential to the production of the Atomic Bomb, thereby contributing materially to
the successful conclusion of
World War II.” The date on
the certificate is 6 August
1945, the day the atomic
bomb was dropped on
Hiroshima. A very significant
copy of the first official report
on the atomic bomb project,
which not only hastened the
end of the second world war,
but materially altered the
paradigm of international
relations. Very Rare in such
inscribed format, and of
especial California interest.

10. (Autographs - Civil War) Four Autograph Letters Signed by men who were later to be generals in the Civil War,
all to future New Mexico Territorial Governor L. Bradford Prince. The writers include: Felix K. Zollicoffer
(1812-1862), writing as United States Congressman from Tennessee - he became a brigadier general
in the CSA and was killed in action at the Battle of Mill Springs. * Robert Toombs (1810-1885), then
serving as United States Senator from Georgia, later first Confederate States Secretary of State before
quitting to join the CSA, rising to brigadier general. * Nathaniel P. Banks, Jr. (1816-1804), Speaker of
the U.S. House of Representatives from Massachusetts, later as general in the Union Army served
with distinction in many campaigns. His calling card is affixed to the letter. * Henry A. Wise (18061876), then governor of Virginia, served as a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. Together, 4
autograph letters. Neatly affixed to backing sheets at edge, with writers’ names decoratively lettered
in ink on the sheet.

of 1812,about French cherries. Sept. 1831. * Clipped signature of Thomas Gage, British commander
in chief during Revolutionary War. * Clipped signature of William L. Dayton, ran as Fremont’s vice
president in 1856. * Portion of envelope signed by Thomas J. Rusk, signed of Texas Declaration of
Independence, along with Sam Houston one of the first two Texas U.S. Senators. * Three letters
from Joseph Henry, first Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, one of them discussing the “plan
of organization of the Smithsonian Institution...” 1847 & 1856. * From Horatio Seymour, governor
of New York and presidential candidate, a letter of introduction. Neatly affixed to backing sheets at
edge, with writers’ names decoratively lettered in ink on the sheet.

First Edition in book form of “the first atlas of dermatology” (Garrison-Morton). Bateman
completed the system of classifying skin diseases which his teacher, Robert Willan, left half
finished at his death. In 1814 Bateman obtained the copyright to the 34 plates for Willan’s On
Cutaneous Diseases. To these plates, which he had refurbished, he added a new set of 38 plates
depicting the later genera of dermatoses, which had never before been illustrated. An ex-library
copy from the Medical and Chirurgical Faculty Library of Maryland with their oval inkstamp on
title leaves and on the rear of each plate; very good.

Key work by the surgeon in the U.S. Army who became known as the “Father of Gastric
Physiology” following his research on human digestion. With inscription on dedication-page,
“B.T. Wells, M.D., with the respects of M..B. Patterson, Decatur, Mich. 21st Sept. 1852.” Signed
by Wells and Patterson at the top of the-title-page, and signed by Patterson on the front board.
At the end of the section on hunger and thirst is written in an early hand, “The most sensible
definitions of hunger & thirst I have yet read.” Boards rubbed, worn; front hinge cracked with
inadequate cloth tape repair, lacking front free endpaper, removed bookplate, foxing to contents,
good to very good.

of our Lord and Sauiour Iesus Christ...Appointed to be read in Churches.” Darlow & Moule

Two volumes of the rare and highly important Bible printed by Johann Fröben and his
associates. Comprises the Bible text interlined with the gloss of Anselm of Laon and
surrounded by the glosses of Walafridus Strabo and others, the Postillae and Moralitates of
Nicolaus de Lyra. The imprint, taken from the colophon of Vol. VI, reads: “Cura [et] impensis
prouido[rum] d[omi]no[rum] magistri Johannis de Amerbach, Joha[n]nis Petri de Langendorff
et Joha[n]nis Fröben de Ha[m]melburg ciues Basilen[sis] : Arte vero [et] industria ipsius Joha[n]
nis Fröben magna cu[m] dilige[n]tia [et] labore, Basilee impressum”. The two volumes offered
here are a mixed pair, both in blindstamped pigskin bindings of the period but differing slightly
in design and color, the type of clasps, the number of ribs, etc. Vol. II lacking leaves 262265 and the final blank. Some rubbing and wear to covers, Vol. II lacking a clasp, Vol. V with
worming; Vol. II with old rubberstamp and in ownership notations on title-page, light, mostly
marginal dampstains within; Vol. V with worming, through the text at beginning and, mostly
marginal at center, with lower corners of last several leaves perished (not affecting text); with a
few instances of ink marginalia, good to very good condition, an important edition of the Bible
of great rarity.

cm. (7x5”), recently bound to style in full calf, gilt and blind embossed, bevel-edged boards. Each leaf
with 46 lines in minuscule Gothic hand in black and red inks. Two 7-line and three 6-line decorative
initial letters, fifteen 2-line initials alternately in red and blue with marginal extensions, running titles
lettered alternately in red and blue.

Beautiful full-margined illuminated leaves from an early manuscript bible. First leaf from II
Esdras; second and third from the book of Psalms; fourth leaf from the book of Jonah; fifth
leaf from II Corinthians and Galatians. Faint ink smear to margin of third leaf, else fine.

The first edition of the first book by the first woman in
America to earn a medical degree. Elizabeth Blackwell
was rejected by all the leading medical schools to which
she applied, and almost all the other schools as well.
When her application arrived at Geneva Medical College
at Geneva, New York, the administration asked the
students to decide whether to admit her or not. The
students, reportedly believing it to be only a practical
joke, endorsed her admission. Blackwell graduated first
in her class in January, 1849, becoming the first woman
to graduate from medical school, and the first woman
doctor of medicine in the modern era. While well
represented in institutional collections this title rarely
appears on the auction block, with this being only the
fourth copy recorded at auction in at least 30 years. 1852
gift inscription on front free endpaper, later embossed
ownership mark on half title. Spine faded, light wear to
cloth; long closed tear across page 77/78, foxing; very
good.

28. (Bohemian Club) Original painted menu/broadside for “A Bon Voyage Dinner to ‘Ralph’ Weill, Bohemian
Club, June 7, 1910” signed by 105 members. Hand-calligraphed menu above with is a painting of Raphael
“Ralph” Weill on a primitive airplane flying both American and French flags, an owl (symbol of the
Bohemian Club) seated on a trunk. 51x71 cm. (20x28”), matted and framed under glass, overall 69x89
cm. (27x35”).
[San Francisco]: 1910
Unique hand-painted menu signed by some 105 members of the Bohemian Club in tribute to
the departing Raphael Weill, who came to San Francisco from France in 1855, and came to own
the famed “White House” department store. He was a founding member of the Bohemian
Club. Among the members who signed by menur are Edward Robeson Taylor, Arnold Genthe,
Edgar Peixotto, George Sterling, A.M. Robertson, Will Sparks, Harry B. Blatchly, and others.
Blatchly was the artist of the color illustration. Some minor soiling, glass cracked with repair,
soiling to mat, very good, not examined out of frame.

(1635–1711) was a Reformed minister from the Netherlands. He is arguably the most esteemed
representative of Middle Period of the Dutch Further Reformation (1600–1750) (also known
as the Dutch Second Reformation). The Dutch Further Reformation is similar to, and coincides
closely in time with, English Puritanism. Vellum darkened, lacks front free endpaper; first
signature detached and lacking the fourth leaf (*4), index leaves at rear worn at edges; good.

reluctantly, at the behest of the dean of Christ Church; he died in 1715, with the project being
transferred to Thomas Ainsworth, who died in 1719, and finally to Timothy Thomas, who
completed it and provided the first glossary of Chaucer appended to this edition. Lowndes says
only 1000 copies of this regular issue were printed (there as a large paper issue of 250 copies
issued simultaneously). Includes first appearance of three previously unpublished Canterbury
“Tales”: The Pardoner, The Merchant’s Second Tale, and the Coke’s Tale of Gamelyn. Text
includes early translation of Boethius’ Consolation of Philosophy. Binding worn at edges and

Interesting statement in which an Army Surgeon plays the intelligence game, have heard of a
stash of cotton that would be useful to the Union war effort: “...During my stay at Pine Bluff
Wm. Johnson, a relative of Senator Johnson of said state who went into the Confiderate (sic)
Army told me that Rebel Planters in and around said Bluff, had, before leaving for the Rebel
Army, sold their cotton to Rodgers a merchant of same Bluff, at ten cents per pound. All of
said cotton is still at Point Bluff. From what Johnson had told me I learned that Rodgers was
not to pay them for said cotton until he had sold the same. Those Rebel Planters had gone
south before the arrival of the Federal Troops here... I shall develop this, and the case of 400

most recently in 2009 starring Michelle Pfeiffer as Léa and Rupert Friend as Chéri. Spine ends

chemistry, geology, medicine, etc. The traveling device, apparently electrical in design, is pictured

(Josefa) del Valle Forster. Isabel del Valle (1837-1905) was the wife of Ygnacio Ramon de Jesus
del Valle (1808-1880), an important officer in the Mexican army who in 1843 was given part
ownership of the Rancho El Tejon land grant for his services. He also inherited the 13,000-acre
Rancho Camulos from his father’s estate. At one time he was Alcalde of Los Angeles, and after
statehood he served in the California State Assembly. Daughter Josefa married John Forster,
son of John (Don Juan) Forster (1814-1882). An Englishman and early settler in Southern
California, Don Juan Forster arrived from Mexico in 1833. In 1836 he married Ysidora Pico
(sister of Pio Pico, twice governor of Alta California). By 1864 Forster was one of the largest
landowners in California, his land grants in what are now Orange County and San Diego
County encompassed more than 200,000 acres. A compelling association copy intersecting two
of the most powerful families of early Southern California. Ex-libris Estelle Doheny with her
leather bookplate to verso of front free endpaper. Text explores the Seven Sorrows of Mary,

Goddard was not a team worker, yet he laid the foundation from which team workers could

Second edition of Higden’s universal history, printed by Wynkyn de Worde in the precincts
of Westminster Abbey, at the press which he had inherited from William Caxton in 1491.
The translation, by John Trevisa for Lord Berkeley in 1387, had first been printed in 1482 by
Caxton, who modernized the prose, added an alphabetical table, and brought it up to date with
a continuation drawn from various contemporary chronicles. The present edition is notable
for the first appearance of printed musical notation in an English book. Occasional early ink

leaves of thick paper, 189 of which contain musical notes and liturgical text in black, with 4-line
staves in red (the 190th leaf with the staves unused). Foliated in red on the outer margin of the recto
of each leaf. With 46 3-inch multi-colored initials, and numerous 2-inch initials in red or blue. 47x25
cm. (18½x13¾”), early 16th century thick wooden boards, subtly and intricately stamped in blind,
spine and marginal portions of covers replenished or overlaid with contemporary leather, 5 large
brass bosses on each cover, brass corner protectors, portion of original vellum label present on front
board.

Rare complete manuscript gradual on very thick paper, in striking medieval binding - most
surviving graduals of the period are on vellum, those on paper are very uncommon. On an
unnumbered leaf at the front is an index, penned in Latin in a later hand. Elsewhere on the
text are a few notations in Spanish. The pastedowns are vellum leaves from a later, probably
16th century, liturgical manuscript with musical notations incorporating five-line staves. Some
worming and other minor wear to the covers; worming to the earlier and later leaves, some
soiling to earlier leaves, but contents generally clean and well preserved, a very nice example
overall.

10 January, 1610; d. at Paris, 13 August, 1686. In 1626 he entered the Society of Jesus, taught
rhetoric and humanities for six years, and subsequently won considerable fame as a preacher.
He is now known, however, more particularly as a prolific historical writer, an opponent
of Jansenism and Protestantism, and a defender of “the Liberties of the Gallican Church”
against the Apostolic See. Owing to his defence of Gallicanism, Pope Innocent XI ordered his
expulsion from the Society of Jesus (1681). When he left the order, in 1682, Louis XIV granted
him a pension, and until his death he continued his literary pursuits in the Abbey of St. Victor,
Paris. His works, remarkable for their elegant diction, are of little value, because somewhat

Account of the martyrdom of the Franciscan priest Philip of Jesus, who was on his way from
Manila to Mexico to be ordained when his ship blew off course and was wrecked on the coast
of Japan. Because of the presence of arms aboard the ship, the Japanese interpreted it as an
invasion force, or at least an advance party, and after a brief imprisonment, on February 5, 1597,
crucified Philip and 25 others, including other friars and Japanese tertiaries, who became known
as the “Twenty-six Martyrs of Japan.” The first edition was published in Mexico in 1683, and

Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,
complete with the rare leaf of testimonials at the
end. Whether actually written by Joseph Smith,
Jr., founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints, or translated by him from the
text engraved on the gold “Plates of Nephi”
that were presented to Smith by Moroni, son
of the prophet Mormon, the Book of Mormon
remains the most important of the writings of
one of America’s most successful theocracies
and most enduring communal movements.
In the first edition only was Smith named as
author; in all subsequent ones he is designated
as translator. The first edition was also the only
one carrying his two-page preface. Flake 595;
Howes S623; Sabin 83038; Streeter 2262. With
contemporary ink inscription on the front
free endpapers, which appears to be “Dear
Cousin Clea,” and below that, in the same hand,
“Routs”(?). On the rear free endpaper, in the
same hand, is written “Dear Cousin Cousin,”
perhaps practicing the inscription. A later, neat
pencil signature of John A. Hull is on the front
flyleaf. The spine label on this copy appears to
have been refurbished, and the gilt restamped,
when the book was rebacked. Moderate scuffing
and wear to covers, dampstain to lower corners
of last 15 or so pages affecting text, contents
foxed, mostly light to moderate but heavy at
times, a very good copy, in modern custommade folding morocco box.

Justice of New Mexico Supreme Court, later Territorial Governor. Two scrapbooks filled with mounted
newspaper clippings. 30x23.5 cm. (11¾x9¼”), marbled boards backed with cloth or leather.
Various places: 1878-1881
Fascinating overview of the career of L. Bradford Prince from 1878 to 1881, though clippings
from newspaper from New York to New Mexico, and hence of New Mexico itself. Prince, a
New York politician and statesman, was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of New
Mexico in December, 1878, and held that post until 1882, when he became delegate to Congress
for the territory. He served as governor of the territory from 1889 to 1893. The present
scrapbooks, which seem to contain every article from New York and New Mexico newspapers
containing the words “T. Bradford Prince” (the 19th century equivalent of Googling oneself),
begin in January 1878, and the first year is primarily concerned with New York politics.
Following his New Mexico appointment, the scene shifts west, and the newsclippings offer
a vivid picture of life and law on the frontier, with many of the newspapers in Spanish.

An accounting of balance due James Russell. James Otis, Jr. (1725-1783) was a colonial
Massachusetts lawyer, a member of the Massachusetts Legislature, and an early advocate
of the political views that led to the American Revolution. The phrase “Taxation without
Representation is Tyranny” is usually attributed to him. Otis died suddenly in May 1783 at the
age of 58 when, as he stood in the doorway of a friend’s home, he was struck by lightning.

on the problem, it is also given the name the “Joule–Lenz law,” named also for James Prescott
Joule. Lenz was member of Russian Academy of Science, head of St.Petersburg University.

Very Rare English edition of Serlio’s “Tutte l’opere d’architettura.” A work distinctive among
early English imprints for its extensive and vigorous illustration. Illustrated English works
of such early date are very rare. The five volume work is considered the first great illustrated
architectural treatise of the Renaissance, of great influence to architectural styles around
Europe. First published in Italian from 1537 to 1545, this 1611 English edition is one of
the earliest, and rarest, architectural works in the
vernacular language. If complete, it would be
foliated [3], 13, [1]; [2], 26, [1]; [1], 73; 71, [1]; 16
leaves. In this copy, however book one is lacking the
title, next leaf and final blank; book two lacking folio
26; book three with folios 26 & 27 misbound; book
five lacking folios 9 -12. The contents are mounted
on stubs throughout, and the work has been
interleaved with the text and illustrations of the 1804
second edition of Ottavio Bartoli-Scamozzi’s “Il
forestiere istrutto nelle cose piu’ rare di architettura...
della citta di Vicenza,” the folding copper-engravings
of that work being of considerable interest when
juxtaposed to the woodcuts in Serlio’s work. The
first 80 or so leaves are silked, as are some others
later on, 1st two leaves with marginal loss, some
leaves trimmed [touching headlines], staining and
browning throughout, some worm damage; still a
rare and highly important work.

Steinbeck.” Tony is Tony Berry, the skipper of the Western Flyer, the purse seiner which ferried
John and Carol Steinbeck, and Ed Rickets, along with a crew of four (including Berry), through
the waters of the Gulf of California in March and April of 1940, collecting specimens and
making observations. Sea of Cortez is the story of the expedition, along with a section of the
scientific findings. It is regarded as one of Steinbeck’s most important works of non-fiction
chiefly because of the involvement of Ricketts, who shaped Steinbeck’s thinking and provided
the prototype for many of the pivotal characters in his fiction, and the insights it gives into
the philosophies of the two men. The inscription to the skipper of the expedition boat makes
this a prime association copy. Provenance: the family of Tony Berry. Jacket tattered, chipped,

the month-long expedition in the Gulf of California that resulted in the book Sea of Cortez by John Steinbeck and

pencil. The entire logbook numbers approx. 174 pages, with 5 of the pages covering other voyages,
and 1 a list of repairs needed to be made to the boat; the remaining pages are unused. . It is a standard
Pilot House Log Book from the Pacific Marine Supply Co. in Seattle, Washington, cloth-backed

The original log book kept by the captain of the boat on which John Steinbeck and Ed Ricketts
made their famous voyage aboard the “Western Flyer,” a 76-foot purser seiner built in Tacoma,
Washington in 1937, to collect marine invertebrates. Tony Berry made daily, and sometimes

17, they “Changed course for Cape Lucas…
Slowed down and proceeded slowly, all of a
sudden shore looms ahead, dropped sounding
line 14 fathoms but boy you could throw a
rock on shore. A close call I calls it.” On March
20, at 11:45 A.M., “Arrived at Espiritu Santo
Island. They collected quite a few specimens
and are well satisfied. On the way to this
island we passed the Miss California, and also
a big black yacht, could not see the name…”
On March 26, “Laid at Puerto Escondito on
anchor. Not much doing today. The boys had
a celebration last night. Quite a few hangovers
today…” On April 9, “Left anchorage for
shrimp fishing boats. There are 12 gape boats
here all big boats, they are sure killing a lot of
other fish. John and Ricketts wend aboard.”
And on April 16, “Tied up alongside of
quarantine wharf in San Diego.” A fascinating
and important record of one of the highly
significant episodes in John Steinbeck’s great

Hawksbill turtle acquired by Tony Berry while the master of the Western Flyer on the
expedition to the Gulf of California undertaken by John and Carol Steinbeck and Ed Rickets
in March and April of 1940. The Hawksbill turtle is today considered critically endangered,
their shells being the primary source of tortoise shell material, used for decorative purposes.

Includes an original woodblock on tissue-paper, tipped in as frontispiece, signed in pencil by
the artist. Stanislaw Szukalski (1893-1987) was a Polish born painter and sculptor whose works
were as unorthodox as his concept of world history, Zermatism. Zermatism postulates that
all human culture was derived from post-deluge Easter Island and that mankind was locked
in an eternal struggle with the Sons of Yeti. Szukalski’s works are on permanent display at the
Polish Museum of America in Chicago, as well as the Polish National Museum in Warsaw. His
sculptures reveal a Mayan influence, many are pictured in this book in addition to city plans,
plans for sculptures that were never executed, and many drawings of architectural elements.
One drawing of a sculpture that is particularly captivating is that of a project for a monument
to Mussolini, conceived on the day of departure of the minister of foreign affairs Zalewski,
of Poland, for Rome. Mussolini is depicted nude and serpentine, with a tail and a scaly spine
and horns, two hounds stand guard with him. An interesting series of illustrations from the
pre-war era of this artist’s career. In 1934 he was proclaimed as the “Greatest Living Artist” by
the Polish government. In 1939, the Nazi siege of Warsaw resulted in the destruction of the
Szukalski National Museum built in his honor just five years before. Contemporary interest
in his work remains, notable admirers include actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who sponsored a
retrospective exhibition titled, “Struggle,” at the Laguna Art Museum in 2000. Lightly sunned
extremities, a few spots of soiling, slightly rubbed; tiny piece of paper lifted from margin of
Mussolini plate; else plates are fine; overall very good.

Henry Marsden or his son, signed JW, mounted on the verso of the front free endpaper, six
lines of verse reading: “Right worthy friend this piece to you I send/ Peruse it well & read it to
the end/ And though nor law, nor gold therein you find/ Treasure and greater that inrich the
mind/ And though small pleasure therein you may take/ Accept it kindly for the Authors sake.”
Beneath the inscription, in what is probably the presentee’s hand: “Experience from this learned
piece I take/ And love to read it, for ye Author’s sake.” On the recto of the free endpaper is
mounted the large signature of Charles Marsden, Esq. White has signed the blank recto of
the imprimatur leaf, along with notation “Purch’d at Fenton’s Sale, Dec. 1798, 5/- RSW.” It is
evident he had his arms stamped on the front cover following his purchase. There are also a
few early ink notations on title-page, and a correction to the spelling of name of another of
the dedicatees. John Webster (1610-1682) was an English clergyman, physician and chemist
with occult interests, a proponent of astrology and a skeptic about witchcraft. In this book,
there is implication that deceptive techniques, such as sleight of hand, might be responsible for
supposed supernatural occurrences, as in the title of Chap. XII, “If the Devil, or Witches have
power to perform strange things, whether the do not bring them to pass by meer natural means,
or otherwise...” This work is a very great rarity in presentation format. Some scuffing & wear
to covers; bookseller’s catalog entry mounted on the blank recto of the imprimatur leaf (well
below White’s signature), occasional minor soiling; very good.

Double the size of the usual poster, and featuring a triptych illustration, this poster advertises
two concerts, each with a big line up, held at the Fillmore West. The artwork is a collaboration
between Griffin and Kelley, and shows a bug like creature holding up the frame (with his legs
too) of a three-dimensional illustration within. BG133. A few nicks to surface near edges, some
creasing at edges; very good.

RARE COLLECTION OF 3D GLASSES
210. (3D Glasses) Collection of original 3D glasses from the 1980s. Approximately 130 pairs of 3D glasses.
Most date from 1980-1990, and are all of the standard size with a few exceptions. Plus a few other
related items, such as an original McDonald’s Happy Meal Box (unused) with 3D cartoon art on
the sides, plus the original glasses included with the happy meal box, dated 1981. Also included is a
Rolling Stones pair of 3D glasses to be used during a 1990 TV broadcast.
1980-1990
There was a resurgence in the popularity of 3D movies (as there is today) in America in the
1980s. 3D movies first appeared on the scene in the 1950s, but these glasses all date from the
1980s. Such movies as Friday the 13th Part 3 debuted in 3D, and there are several pairs of
glasses promoting that movie (and others) in this collection. Most are near fine; some with a bit
of wear from handling; only a few with moderate wear (dust, soiling, etc). Mostly near fine.

on stage. Each contact sheet approx. 28x35.5 cm. (11x15”); one is framed.
No place: c.1969
The man arguably the greatest electric guitarist in the history of rock music performs live
on stage with the other two members of his band. There seems to be water and a fountain
in front of the stage. Accompanied by a receipt from The Custom Print Shop, Professional
Photo Finishing, Hollywood, Ca., made out to a J. Jones, but not for these contact sheets. Fine
condition.

“Peace Together.” Archivally matted and framed in lovely beveled gold frame. With frame measures
75x62 cm. (29½x24¼”).
Monterey, CA: Mediametrics Corporation, 1970
Original poster for an important precursor to Woodstock, the Monterey International (World)
Pop Festival, which first appeared in 1967. While Monterey had been host to Jazz and Folk
music festivals, it had never hosted a pop or rock music festival. The poster boasts among the
entertainment, “60 hours of music. International film festival runs continuously. West coast
shows carnival. Camp facilities provided.” A 3-day event from March 20-22, which only cost you
$10. Appears fine, although not examined outside of frame.

The property listed in this catalogue will be sold by PBA Galleries, Inc. (hereinafter Galleries) as

shall be enforceable only by the original purchaser and not by any subsequent owner or any person
who shall subsequently acquire any interest. No purchaser shall be entitled to any remedy, relief or
damages beyond return of the property, recision of the sale and refund of the purchase price; and,
without limitation, no purchaser shall be entitled to damages of any kind.

6. If we are prevented by fire, theft or any other reason whatsoever from delivering any property to
the purchaser, our liability shall be limited to the sum actually paid by the purchaser.
7. Books and other property purchased are to be removed at the close of each Sale unless shipping
instructions are received by the Galleries before such sale.If not removed, property will be held
at the sole risk of the purchaser and no responsibility is assumed if such goods are lost, stolen,
damaged, or destroyed.The Galleries will facilitate shipment of property to out-of-town purchasers
at an additional packing charge plus carriage and insurance, but will not be responsible for any loss
or damage resulting from the shipping thereof in excess of the amount of the insurance.
8. Payment terms:All items are to be paid for by (a) cash, (b) cashier’s check, (c)credit card,
or (d) personal check with approved credit, and all accounts are due when bills are rendered.
MERCHANDISE WILL BE SHIPPED AFTER PAYMENT HAS BEEN RECEIVED.
9. We reserve the right to reject a bid from any bidder.The highest bidder acknowledged by the
auctioneer shall be the purchaser.In the event of any dispute between bidders, or in the event the
auctioneer doubts the validity of any bid, the auctioneer shall have the sole and final discretion
either to determine the successful bidder or to re-offer and resell the article in dispute. If any
dispute arises after the sale, our sales records shall be conclusive in every respect.
10. Unless the Sale is advertised as a sale without reserve, each lot is offered subject to a reserve.
MOST LOTS OFFERED BY THE GALLERIES HAVE A MINIMUM RESERVE OF ONEHALF THE PRESALE LOW ESTIMATE .The Galleries do not accept reserves of more than the
low estimate nor allow consignors to bid on their own items.
11. To prevent inaccuracy in delivery or inconvenience in the settlement of a purchase, no lot can be
transferred.Each buyer must pay for the whole of his purchases before any lot can be removed.
12. As a service to clients unable to attend the Sale, we will accept absentee bids without charge in
advance of the sale by telephone, mail, fax, email or in person.All bids must state the highest bid
price the bidder is willing to pay.“Buy” bids are not accepted.Please check bid sheets carefully to
make sure you have the correct lot numbers and that the sheet is legible.The Galleries reserve the
right to refuse to undertake absentee bids, and shall in no event be responsible for failure to execute
such bids or for any error that may occur when executing them.Unsuccessful absentee bids will not
be acknowledged.

CONSIGNING BOOKS TO PBA GALLERIES
The first step in consigning to PBA is to contact the Galleries, either by phone, fax, email or letter.
It can then be determined whether the item or items under consideration would do well at auction.
Following this, arrangements can be made for the delivery of the material to PBA. In the case of
large consignments or libraries, a member of the staff may be able to view the books on location,
and make arrangements for its transportation to PBA Galleries. Because of the costs involved, PBA
discourages consignments with a total value of less than $1500.
The frequency of auctions, and variety of subject matter, allows PBA Galleries to ensure quick
turn-around time for items consigned. Books can appear at auction as quickly as 30 days and
generally not more than 90 days following consignment. Commissions vary between 10% and 15%,
depending on the selling price of an item.These commissions encompass all related costs including
insurance, storage, cataloguing, illustrations, etc., except shipping. Payment is sent within 20 banking
days of an auction.
