“Get Hooked on a Book” Reading Program This month a new reading program is beginning at Deal School to encourage all students to independently read books and novels. STUDENT MONTHLY GOALS K-2 3-8 3-picture books or easy readers 1- chapter book or novel All students should read at their individual reading level. Books must be approved by their Reading Teacher. There will be a monthly book activity to complete (K-2) and a monthly question to answer (3-8) in relation to your books. The responses will be reviewed by a group of teachers and responses will be posted on the Get Hooked on a Book bulletin board. Our school wide goal is to have 85% of student participation each month! MONTHLY AWARDS For every book read and monthly book activity completed (K-2) or monthly question answered (3-8) you will be given a ticket to enter a monthly prize drawing. The more you read the more chances you have to win a prize! Prize Levels: K-2, 3-5, 6-8 Along with our prize drawings you will be given a “chance” ticket. If we meet our monthly school goal of 85% student participation there will be an assembly to cash in “chance” tickets for the opportunity to give some special guests a “pie in the face.” YEAR END CELEBRATION Those students who participate each marking period will be invited to a special assembly in June with games and prizes. You will be given a chance to dunk Mr. Saponaro in a dunk tank. READ, READ, READ so you can enjoy the fun!
