Grading and Course Requirements
Attendance in class is extremely important since we must
move quickly to cover the required material, and any absences
will be taken into consideration if a grade is on the borderline
at the end of the semester. You should not miss class for
reasons other than illness or some unforeseen emergency.
However, you are still responsible for the material covered in
class on that day.
The final grade will be based on class attendance and any
required homework (including a required group project),
concert/recital attendance and reports (2), listening quizzes
(5), unit exams (5), and the final exam. The concert/recitals
may include wind ensemble, symphony, chorale, percussion
ensemble, college student recitals, or world music. Performances
must be of a college or professional level. You will need to
turn in a paper on each performance (details will be given in
class) with a program attached to it. Papers are due Thursday,
April 23. No papers will be accepted after this time. However,
papers may be turned in any time prior to the due date. The
percentage of grade requirements is listed above. Class lecture
notes will be given from the required text. Roll will be taken
each class period. Exams may be made up within one week if the
absence is excused and properly documented.
If you have questions or a personal matter to discuss,
please feel free to call or e-mail me.
