OUR NEW VARIETIES FOR SPRING 2015 DELIVERY
We are very excited to unveil the first of many new introductions to come, resulting from
our work with breeders using a different approach to breeding unique and improved Itoh
peonies. This first introduction from breeder
Thierry Rat is named in honor of Caroline
Constabel, the plant scientist that pioneered
the tissue culture technology for commercial
peony micropropagation.
CAROLINE CONSTABEL, PPAF
Dr. Caroline Constabel proudly posing with her
namesake.
The 'Caroline Constabel' Itoh peony has many large, very
double pink flowers and darker flares with 3 to 5 flowers
per stem. The stems are strong and easily keep the
flowers upright above the healthy dark green foliage
which looks good even after flowering. This is the first of
the new Itohs with very double, bomb-like blooms.
LIMIT OF 300 PLANTS PER CUSTOMER
AND TWO OTHER NEW GREAT VARIETIES!
YELLOW DOODLE DANDY
Say hello to Doodle Dandy. The semi-double to
double flowers are a clear deep yellow with no flares.
The large blooms are displayed on upright stems just
above and beyond the foliage. The dark green
foliage lasts well into autumn. Light and pleasant
fragrance.

Itoh (or intersectional hybrid) peonies were developed by crossing
herbaceous peonies with tree peonies with the best qualities of both:
Herbaceous growth habit;
Stronger stems that hold flowers upright even after a heavy rain;
Do not attract ants;
New palette of colors and forms not previously found in
herbaceous varieties (yellow, flares etc);
Extreme winter hardiness (buds located at
the crown as herbaceous);
Healthy and attractive foliage, bushy form
(tree peony type).
