Biology Course Description Biology investigates concepts and applications in the anatomy, physiology, and ecology of humans, animals and plants. Aspects of this course include lectures and discussions based on readings as well as hands on laboratory work. During the semester, we will survey topics including but not limited to the structure and function of plants, human anatomy and physiology, and molecular biology. Through our studies, we hope to enhance our appreciation for God’s incredible creation. Class time Class time consists of a short lecture and discussion with the majority of the time devoted to hands on activities including dissections, microscope use, experiments and observations. Please read the texts and complete the assignments before Monday’s lecture and lab. Most of the quizzes in the A Beka Student quiz book will be used as review exercises. Quizzes given in class will cover specific material assigned as homework. Please bring the A Beka Student Quizzes booklet to class on the first day. I will collect these from the students to use during class time throughout the year. Tests will be given at home and are to be graded by parents. Other supplies two pocket folder a set of colored pencils note cards for flash cards lab coat, apron, or large shirt for labs The folders are to maintain order while papers are passed between student and tutor. The student’s name should be on the folder. During each class I will ask for specific assignments from the week to be turned in. The student will then put all requested papers in the folder to be turned in. The colored pencils will be used for coloring the anatomy pages in the lab manual. The note cards will be used to make flash cards for the vast amount of new vocabulary that comes with learning biology. Finally, the notebooks are for textbook exercises and taking notes during the lecture part of class.
