Biology
Course Description
Biology investigates concepts and applications in the anatomy, physiology, and ecology of
humans, animals and plants. Aspects of this course include lectures and discussions based on
readings as well as hands on laboratory work. During the semester, we will survey topics
including but not limited to the structure and function of plants, human anatomy and
physiology, and molecular biology. Through our studies, we hope to enhance our appreciation
for God’s incredible creation.
Class time
Class time consists of a short lecture and discussion with the majority of the time devoted to
hands on activities including dissections, microscope use, experiments and observations.

Homework, Tests, and Quizzes
Students will be expected to come to class prepared to participate in discussions. Please read
the texts and complete the assignments before Monday’s lecture and lab. Most of the quizzes in
the A Beka Student quiz book will be used as review exercises. Quizzes given in class will
cover specific material assigned as homework. Please bring the A Beka Student Quizzes
booklet to class on the first day. I will collect these from the students to use during class time
throughout the year. Tests will be given at home and are to be graded by parents.
Other supplies
 two pocket folder
 a set of colored pencils
 note cards for flash cards

lab coat, apron, or large shirt for labs
The folders are to maintain order while papers are passed between student and
tutor. The student’s name should be on the folder. During each class I will ask for specific
assignments from the week to be turned in. The student will then put all requested papers in
the folder to be turned in. The colored pencils will be used for coloring the anatomy pages in
the lab manual. The note cards will be used to make flash cards for the vast amount of new
vocabulary that comes with learning biology. Finally, the notebooks are for textbook exercises
and taking notes during the lecture part of class.
