Living in Newcastle
Here are just 5 reasons why many of our students
consider ‘The Toon’ their second home...
Reason 1...
Newcastle University campus is right in the
heart of the city centre, so you’re never far from all that the city
has to offer. The city is very compact, so it’s easy to get around,
and you won’t have to travel far to lectures from our centrally
located accommodation.
Reason 2... Our student social life is top-rated.* From
legendary nightlife, to world-class arts, music and sport, and
a multitude of shopping and dining options, Newcastle has it all!
*Joint first in 2013 and joint second in 2014, The Times Higher Education Student
Experience Survey
Reason 3... Student-friendly and safe – with one in six people
in Newcastle a student, you’ll be in good company. You’ll soon see why
Newcastle is considered one of the friendliest cities in the UK and why
we’re ranked in the top five for quality of student life.**
** University Quality of Life Survey, Lloyds Bank, 2014
Reason 4... Student rents and cost of living are lower
than average, saving you more money to spend on Newcastle’s
many attractions.
Reason 5...
Newcastle is a beautiful city to live in, with
Georgian buildings standing alongside iconic, modern architecture,
plenty of green spaces (including two parks right next to the
University), and the coast and countryside on your doorstep.
With city-centre train and coach stations and the nearby airport,
we’re well-connected for travelling further afield.

How to apply
Complete your application as soon
as you have received a conditional
or unconditional offer to study at
the University at www.ncl.ac.uk/
accommodation/apply
Register online
• Create your personal login using your UCAS
or postgraduate application number
• Do not use a school e-mail address when creating your log-in. Offers are sent over the summer when it’s likely you will no longer
have access to this account
• Add us to your e-mail safe-senders
•You must complete your online application
by 30 June to be covered by the guarantee (see page 22)
Your preferences
• You can choose up to 10 named residences – choosing the maximum number of residences will improve your chances of being offered
one of your preferences
• Remember that small residences will fill quickly,
so look at the number of rooms offered at
each accommodation
• If you need a specific room allocation due
to a disability or medical condition, including any hidden disabilities, include this in your
application. You may not be offered the correct type of accommodation if you haven’t advised us of any requirements and we won’t have an alternative to offer at a later date
www.ncl.ac.uk/accommodation
Application submitted
What happens next depends on the status
of your offer to study.
• Unconditional firm: some students will receive
offers at the beginning of May. If you have not
heard at this time, you should expect to receive
an offer in mid-August onwards
• Conditional firm: we cannot process your
application until you receive your unconditional
offer. If this is dependent on exam results, you
will receive an offer within two weeks of
receiving your results
•Non-guaranteed: applications received after
30 June or via Insurance or during Clearing/
Adjustment will be processed from 1 September
2015 onwards
Offer of accommodation
• If you are allocated University-owned
accommodation you will receive an e-mail
asking you to log back onto the website to
review the offer made to you online
• If you are allocated Managed Partnership accommodation you will be sent an e-mail directing you to the company’s online system,
so you can register and view/accept the offer
made to you or you will receive an e-mail
with several attachments to print and return
(with a pre-payment if required) by the
relevant deadline
Accept the offer by the expiry date
Failure to accept will result in the offer being
withdrawn and the room given to another
student. Consider carefully before rejecting
an offer of accommodation, as you will not
receive another. The offer is a legally binding
agreement.
Welcome to Newcastle!
Arrive at your accommodation for registration
in September 2015.
