The MOCTC is a partnership between the Mecosta-Osceola Intermediate School District and Baker College of Cadillac. Students take most of the courses at the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center (MOCC) and Baker College of Cadillac campus. The MOCTC is designed to offer high school student an accelerated pathway to a technical certificate and/or an associate’s degree in Graphic Communications (GC), Public Safety (PS) or Welding & Fabrication (WE). The MOCTC partnership allows for student to participate in the college program at little to no cost. Courses offered at MOCTC will be little to no cost to the student. Due to the monetary investment provided on behalf of each student, enrollment is competitive and should be taken seriously. A student interested in the MOCTC will begin a discussion with his/her high school guidance counselor early on in his/her high school career and begin to align coursework, attendance practices, and social skills in such a way as to make him/her eligible. Interested students, meeting admission requires, will complete the application process in the spring of their sophomore year in conjunction with the next year scheduling process. Students admitted to the MOCTC are making a 3 year commitment that begins at the onset of their junior year of high school. Student must be on track for graduation. MOCTC students are enrolled in the Mecosta-Osceola Career Center GC, PS or WE programs. During the junior and senior year MOCTC students spends half of their day the home high school and half the day at the MOCC. Time spent at the MOCC will be aligned with degree specific lab and classroom coursework. Depending on scheduling needs at the home school, it is possible for the student to work on other degree specific coursework through online or direct credit formats. During the 3rd year (13th year) of the program student will spend their day between the MOCC and the Baker College campus completing the remainder of their degree specific coursework. Upon successful completion of the 13th year, students will be awarded a high school diploma from their home high school and a technical certificate and/or an associate’s degree from Baker College. The 9th & 10th grade attendance record will be verified and considered for enrollment Recommended overall GPA of 2.5 Establish and maintain a B or better in MOCC program/course work throughout enrollment Be recommended by MOCC Instructor and/or High School Guidance Counselor Commit to completing additional learning activities and work associated with the college curriculum Update and submit your Educational Development Plan (EDP) and show intention (documentation) of higher learning in the pathway/cluster aligned with MOCC program/coursework An EDP is a document showing a Student’s education and career goals and a way to achieve those goals. It is more comprehensive than a schedule of classes because it includes information a Student can use to make choices about career options. Most Students will begin the EDP process during middle school. It is in the best interest of a Student to use an EDP to focus and plan in order to successfully complete graduation requirements and prepare for the transition to postsecondary education and on to the world of work.
