OS CAREER EXPLORATION AND PREP SERIES In an effort to assist our students with the challenging task of planning their career trajectory and preparing for their own internship and job search, Organizational Studies has organized a series of career preparation sessions, some more general and others more focused on specific fields of work. Most of these sessions will be led by OS alumni, individuals who understand the Organizational Studies degree “from the inside” and who are best equipped to help you understand how your degree meshes well with various professions, as well as how to begin to plan for your future. FALL SEMESTER 2014 OS Career/Internship Prep Boot Camp September 12, 2014, 1:30-3:00pm, 753 Dennison Learn how to tell your story as an OS major in a way that will impress employers and strategies for the job/internship search? Topics will include resume and interview tips, networking tactics and much more. Sarah Miller (OS ’08), UM Career Center Advisor will be leading this session. She loves helping students understand their story, skills, and interests while encouraging out-of-the-box thinking when it comes to exploring majors and careers. OS Special Interest Topic: Case Study Interview Prep September 19, 2014 3:30-5:00pm, 753 Dennison For those seniors planning on entering the consulting field (or juniors planning internships), here’s your chance to get a handle on the case study interview process. Deloitte Consulting has a strong relationship with OS, successfully recruiting our graduates to analyst positions for many years. In their effort to assist our students in the consulting recruitment process, they offer a case-study interview prep session. OS alumni Tom Roake (’08) and Elizabeth Marcus (’14) with colleague Mike Corrie from Deloitte’s Transformation, Talent and HR Capital units will help you get prepared for the interview process. OS Special Interest Topic: HR October 3, 2014, 1:30-3:00pm, 753 Dennison Patty Theokas (’08) is currently an HR Business Partner at a global commercial real estate firm, Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), in Chicago IL. Prior to JLL she worked at Bloomberg in NYC, and at InnerWorkings, Inc. in Chicago. She has 8+ years of HR experience, with an emphasis on talent management, succession planning, change management, and recruitment and an MBA from Loyola University in Chicago. Patrick Smitowski is the HR Director for the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan. He currently leads the UM HR Community of Practice, a professional development group encompassing HR practitioners on the academic campus and health system. Prior to joining UM, Patrick worked for Allstate Insurance Company and Mesaba Airlines, a marketing partner with Northwest Airlines. He holds an MBA from Wayne State University and a BA from the University of Michigan where he pursued organizational studies when it was an individualized concentration program. OS Special Interest Topic: Non-Profit October 17, 2014, 1:30-3:00pm, 753 Dennison Josh Serlin (’08), launched and led the Chicago chapter of Back on My Feet, a growing non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and self-sufficiency of underserved populations through running. Josh recently completed his MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, and currently works as a Consultant with The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Katie Van Dusen (’13) received her B.A. in Organizational Studies concentrating in Nonprofits and Global Social justice from the School of Literature, Science, and the Arts, and a B.M.A in Violin performance from the School of Music, Theater, and Dance. Katie joined the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation in August 2013 as the new Office Coordinator, where she supports gift processing, grant making, accounts payable and coordinates technology-oriented projects focused on data systems and web work. She is also a violinist and grant writer with the National Arab Orchestra, where she assists in program development, fundraising, and performing. OS CAREER EXPLORATION AND PREP SERIES OS Special Interest Topic: Marketing October 24, 2014, 1:30-3:00pm, 753 Dennison Mallory Bradford (’09) is in Google's sales office in Chicago. Since starting at Google she has worked in programmatic, display, and affiliate marketing helping independent agencies and large retailers grow their online footprints. In her current role, Mallory helps large financial service and travel advertisers use Google products to efficiently and scalably buy media across the web. Megan Moore ('07) has had a variety of experiences in consumer insights on both the manufacturer and agency side. She spent 7 years as a Consumer & Market Knowledge Manager at Procter & Gamble across COVERGIRL, Dolce & Gabbana cosmetics, Venus, and Gillette developing foundational consumer understanding and new product launch campaigns. As of this fall, she has moved to the agency side as a Director of Strategy at Noise, helping clients understand millennial social/cultural trends and leverage to drive brand strategy. OS Special Interest Topic: Education November 7, 2014, 1:30-3:00pm, 753 Dennison Shanna Goldenberg (’06) began her professional career as a corps member for Teach For America after graduation. She taught 3rd grade and then transitioned to Program Director where she supported Pre-K through 5th grade teachers. Shanna earned her Master's in Education in Elementary Curriculum & Instruction and then left the U.S. to teach 2nd grade at an American School in Milan, Italy. Working with students from over 15 different countries allowed her to expand her education repertoire. Shanna is now looking to re-enter the classroom and focus solely on early literacy education and working towards a literacy specialist certification. Melissa Kamin Busillo (’07) OS Special Interest Topic: Finance November 14, 2014, 1:30-3:00pm, 753 Dennison Jason Rosenblatt (’10) has worked at Goldman Sachs in the Private Bank management team since graduation. Previously, Jason interned for GSBank USA strategy team. This strategy team is responsible for managing the bank legal entity for Goldman Sachs. Jason’s current role focuses on managing and expanding the lending business for the business’ high net-worth clients. OS Special Interest Topic: Public Policy November 21, 2014, 1:30-3:00pm, 753 Dennison Liz Brisson (’05) is a Senior Transportation Planner at the San Francisco County Transportation Authority. Her work there is guided by the city's values and goals that match her own: wishing to transform San Francisco to a place that is easier, more convenient, and safer to get around by public transportation, walking, and cycling. Liz is currently in charge of planning a half billion dollar subway to upgrade an existing underperforming surface light-rail. Liz completed a Master's Degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2008.
