Dolce & Gabbana and Michael Roberts: fashion combines with literature and photography in a project which encloses and combines the vision of a brand which regards Sicily as one of its major inspirational sources, and the vision of a fashion maverick who found a new adoptive home in this land made up of intense colours and tastes. A book and a photographic exhibition seal this unique relationship. “Winter fog drifted across the volcano's bleak eastern face, covering the sleeping ghost town of Presa and the small broken farm huddled below …” The opening verse of the tale projects us into a bucolic dream dimension, a new and modern Arcadia which finds its poetic core in love for nature and for its beauties. A return to the origins, to that land whose traditions, stories and beliefs have contributed for years to build the universe of values which has made Dolce & Gabbana synonymous with that particular kind of Italianness which is deeply tied to its land and which has found a sublime expression in the images and words of Michael Roberts. Michael Roberts’ camera captures striking images which recall profound, and sometimes dramatic, emotions and it celebrates the Dolce & Gabbana Fall/Winter 2008/09 collection in a chiaroscuro mix of colours and sensations.
