Students will review the organizational chart and pay careful attention to the winner of each presidential election and their political party affiliation. Students will take a test over this material by completing a blank version of the chart There are key things to consider when examining the chart: Notice the various “eras” in American political history From 1789 to 2012 there have been 57 presidential elections and 44 US presidents Winners of 1840, 1848, 1864, 1880, 1900, 1920, 1944, 1960 elections all died in office and were replaced by their Vice Presidents. Winners of 1788, 1800, 1808, 1816, 1828, 1860, 1868, 1884, 1896, 1912, 1932, 1952, 1980, 1992, 2000, and 2008 elections were elected to at least two terms as president.
