Rottweilers Lend a Guiding Hand On Sunday 22 April the Meridian Rottweiler League presented a cheque for R10 000-00 to the S.A. GuideDogs Association for the Blind. The cheque was received by their Marketing Manager, Pieter van Niekerk and his family. The Meridian Rottweiler League was established in 1985, and is one of the largest specialist dog clubs in the country. As part of its social responsibility programme, the club has over the past 27 years been involved in numerous fundraising initiatives, both as participants and as organisers. This year the S.A. Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind was nominated to be the recipient. To raise funds, the club held a Murder Mystery evening on the 31st of March at the Old Alberton Town Hall. The evening was well supported by Meridian Rottweiler League club members, as well as members of the Rottweiler Working and Breeding Association and members of the public. Thanks to the hard work put in by the club, lead by committee member Bronwyn White, the evening was a resounding success. Although the team involved in this project was much bigger, these individuals also deserve a special thank you – Jennifer Lees for obtaining the large cheque from Standard Bank, Richard White for taking the photo and Isabella Chiapasco for the donation of new books that was also handed to the S.A. Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind. The Meridian Rottweiler League is both honoured and humbled to be in a position to contribute to the excellent work done by the S.A. Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind. The R10 000-00 raised by the club will enable the S.A. Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind to present one person with a fully trained guide dog. On behalf of all its members the Meridian Rottweiler League wishes to thank the S.A. Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind for the opportunity to assist with this worthy cause.
