Medical Terminology Competency
The MCPHS PA Class of 2017 will be using the text, Medical Terminology: An
Illustrated Guide, 7th Edition through Lippincott Williams & Wilkins. Reviewing and
studying from this text will prepare you for your medical terminology competency. All
students will be required to take a medical terminology competency on the first day of
classes, January 11, 2016. The competency will be a combination of True/False,
matching, and multiple choice questions.

Passing the Competency
Students will need to score 80% or greater to successfully pass the competency. If
students receive less than 80%, they will need to meet with their assigned advisor
for remediation within the first week of classes and will be required to re-take the
examination within the first 2 weeks of classes and receive a score of 80% or
greater on the re-take exam. This competency is required to pass your MPA-530
Clinical Medicine course.
