NOT called “ordinary” because it’s not “special” (like Christmas or Easter) but because we use “ordinal” numbers to name the weeks – i.e. first, second, third of the year not one, two, three. [Not a lot of people know that!!!] It’s the time when we start reflecting on Our Lord’s ministry rather than on special events in his life; a reminder to us that we have to live our ordinary, everyday lives and make sure that Jesus is a part of them, not just the special bits like Christmas, Easter … and Sundays!
