Eligibility for Fall 2014 student teaching
Be admitted to regular status in the teacher education program.
By August 2014, lack no more than 6 credit hours (except student teaching) toward completion of the degree or specialization.
ANY exceptions must be approved by the admission committee.
Maintain the required grade point averages as outlined in the UTPB Certification Handbook.
Take the appropriate TExES test in the content area and the PPR o For student teaching in a Bilingual classroom, pass the BTLPT in addition to the Generalist and PPR.
TExES and other test requirements
Candidates must take the appropriate official TExES test in their content area and PPR for admission to student teaching . o You must call or come to the Certification Office and fill out a registration form to take the pre-tests, as well as the official TExES content and PPR tests. o To receive approval to register for the TExES, LOTE, or BTLPT, you must be admitted to the teacher certification program, and you must have taken the corresponding pretest. o Official testing website: texes.ets.org o Testing dates: please see attached document o Testing Coordinator: Tricia Garza, 432-552-2121, garza_pa@utpb.edu
The Application Process
3 part application o Online Application through TK20 (Due March 20, 2014 by 5:00pm) o Advisor’s Addendum (Due March 20, 2014 by 5:00pm)
Must be signed by both major advisor and certification advisor (Schedule an appointment as soon as you can!!)
Submit completed form to the Certification Office (MB3215) by the deadline o Online Educator Readiness Portfolio through TK20 (Due March 31, 2014 by 5:00pm)
The online portfolio will be open for submissions from March 20, 2014 through March 31, 2014 at 5:00pm)

Timeline
February 2014 – attend a student teacher informational roundup meeting
March 20 – deadline for submitting online application through TK20
March 20 - deadline for submitting completed advisor’s addendum to the certification office (MB3215)
March 31 - deadline to submit educator readiness portfolio through TK20 (open 3/22 – 3/31)
April 1 through April 9 – one on one interviews with the Director of Field Experiences
April 18 - Student teaching admission committee meets to determine eligibility. Students will be notified promptly of the committee’s decision
May 16 (tentative) - notification of tentative student teaching placement
June 6 – deadline to take care of criminal history background checks and other district Human Resource requirements
August 22 – Mandatory orientation for student teachers (date subject to change).
August 25 - begin student teaching placement at assigned campus
**You must have taken both the TExES content and PPR exams BEFORE July 18th . Do not wait to register for these exams!!
Notes on Split Placements
Split placements will be split equally between the two assignments. The student will complete 7 weeks in each assignment.
Notes to potential early graduates
If you graduate before the student teaching semester, you must reapply to UTPB as a graduate student in order to register for
student teaching.
If you graduate, you may not be eligible for Pell grants and some other forms of financial aid. We recommend that you consult the Office of Financial Aide to discuss your particular financial aid issues.
Candidates must take the appropriate TExES content and PPR exams prior to beginning student teaching.
Candidates must take the appropriate practice exam prior to registering for the TExES, LOTE, or BTLPT exams.
