The Philippine Association for Language Teaching (PALT) will be holding a conference
in La Trinidad in Benguet State University with the theme “Managing Change” on May
3-5, 2012. This event which highlights the major reforms that will be implemented in
the educational system beginning with the K-12 curriculum has the following
speakers:

• Dr. Ma. Lourdes Tayao, University of the Philippines Diliman (Ret.) (“Research in Basic Ed”)
• Dr. Edizon A. Fermin, Miriam College-High School (“Teaching English in Junior High

This convention aims to:
1. affirm the roles of Language Teachers as change managers in light of the
education reform initiatives that have bearing on the professional discipline of
language education;
2. explore potentials of indigenous materials and contexts in developing language
skills in one’s mother tongue and in the target language in the early years;
3. realize the need for teaching approaches that facilitate the transfer of language
skills from one’s mother tongue to the target language;
4. articulate implications of a standards-based view of language teaching in basic
education, higher education, and technical-vocational education; and
5. formulate a research agenda that will help monitor and evaluate the outcomes
of changes in language teaching brought about by state education reforms
We are offering subsidized conference fees as follows:
Live-in registrants:
Php 4,500.00 (Food, kits, and with lodging)
Live-out registrant:
Php 3,000.00 (Food and kits only)
Attached are the CHED Memorandum, DepEd Memorandum, and the program. We
