The demand for trained homeland-security personnel has skyrocketed over the last decade.
Since the creation of the Department of Homeland Security in 2002, the number of federal
security jobs has grown by 377 percent,2 and many government and law-enforcement
agencies continue to increase their staff. For example, the FBI predicts 17 percent job
growth by 2021,3 and the O*NET occupational database projects that job opportunities for
emergency management directors will grow between 10 and 19 percent by 2020.4
