WYOMING STATE GUIDE

STATE OVERVIEW

Wyoming is currently a red state, with the Republican Party dominating both the House and Senate. In the 2012 election,

President Barack Obama was defeated by Republican candidate

Mitt Romney by a large margin of 69% to 28%. However, with only three electoral votes, Romney’s victory in Wyoming had little impact on his national race as Obama won the overall election.

Wyoming’s governor, Matt Mead , is also Republican and won the office in the 2010 elections, defeating Democrat opponent Leslie

Peterson with 72% of the vote.

TOP STATE ISSUES

1. Economy

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Wyoming’s unemployment rate is at 4.6% (October, 2013). Wyoming leaders have worked hard to maintain level spending, however, this is still an issue to be dealt with as the state is approximately $6,927,094,000 in 2013. (1)

2. Population Decrease

Currently Wyoming ranks 49th on the list of states with the highest population. With only Alaska trailing, the state of

Wyoming has only 5.8 inhabitants per square mile. (2) According to 2012 House candidate David Northrup, Wyoming has an excellent and affordable education system. However, the problem is that high school graduates must find work somewhere else due to the bad economy. This drives Wyoming’s population down even more. (3)

3. Suicide Rate

According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Wyoming ranked first in suicide in 2010 with a rate of 23.2. Additionally, Wyoming was reported to be first in 2012. (4) This is an issue that definitely needs to be addressed in prayer.

How to Pray for Wyoming

1. Pray that the unemployment rate would decrease, as well as the state debt. Declare that Wyoming is a debt-free state! (Philippians 4:19)

2. Pray for the population of Wyoming to increase, and for jobs to be created that would draw both locals and out-of state citizens to live in the state. (Isaiah 54:2)

3. Declare life over the state of Wyoming! Pray against a spirit of suicide and depression that is attacking the state, and ask for the Lord to release His joy and peace over the land. (Isaiah 61:3)

4. Pray for righteous candidates to be voted into office during the 2014 elections, and for the Church to rise up and take its place in these elections! (Proverbs 29:4)

5. Ask God to bless each candidate and incumbent; pray for their salvation, safety, and an understanding of the value in supporting biblical principles. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
