“To Glorify God
& EnJoy Him Forever.”
June 15, 2014
Welcome
The Lord’s Day
Sunday, June 15, 2014
Welcome to Proclamation Presbyterian Church!
I offer a warm welcome to all of you, visitors and members alike, as we worship God together. I
invite you to embrace the words of the Psalmist: “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us
rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24) As you worship, use all the elements of worship to express your joy and gladness.
Today in the USA we celebrate Father’s Day. This is a holiday that had difficulty gaining wide
acceptance in our country. In fact, I was a father before Congress officially made it a permanent
holiday in 1972. The reticence of our society to accept the holiday reflects some of the ambiguity
we face in understanding the role of the father. If you are a father, you no doubt have experienced
first hand the difficulty in knowing what to do as a father. You may struggle with how to be sensitive and not view yourself as a wimp.
Even though our culture does not portray an unambiguous view of fatherhood, the Christian
faith does. The Bible shows us the perfect father–our Father in heaven. He requires perfection of
us–“You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” (Matthew 5:48) Yet at the
same time he provides forgiveness when we fail to be perfect and gives us his righteousness. He
accomplishes this by sending his only son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to redeem his people by taking
our sins upon himself on the cross and giving us his perfect righteousness.
Many of us fathers struggle with reading the confusing signals that come from our world telling
us what it means to be a father. But today we need not struggle. We have a perfect model who
will enable us to adopt it, if we ask.
Perhaps the ideal Father’s Day celebration would be a prayer meeting where all the fathers asked
God to form his pattern of fathering in them. We won’t do that. But I hope all fathers will take
comfort in the knowledge that we have a perfect heavenly Father and he will help us as we seek
to be godly fathers.
Elder Fran McGowen will be available following the morning service to answer any questions
you may have and to pray with you.
***Please take a moment to silence all electronic devices. Also, there are large print Bibles and hearing
assist devices available in the narthex. We ask visitors and members alike to sign the ‘Friendship Pad’
as it is passed down the row. As the pad is passed back along the row, I encourage you look at the
names. Then you can greet one another by name.

As we worship today we focus on God’s unity or oneness. God is one and he alone is God. He is one being and
because of his unity cannot be made into more than one being. God’s unity belongs to him absolutely and exclusively. This is why as Christians we confess we believe in the one true God. Other religions, such as Islam, may
claim to hold to the unity of God, such, but oneness belongs only to Yahweh. The gods of other religions, including
Islam, are false gods. As you sing our first hymn, rejoice that you can praise “the High Eternal One.”

GOD
IS
U NI TY
We know that “an idol has no real existence,” and that “there is no God but one.” For although there may be socalled gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”—yet for us there is one
God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are
all things and through whom we exist.

We welcome you to our Communion service this morning and invite to the table all those who believe
in Jesus Christ and are members in good standing in a Bible-believing church.
It is our custom to hold the elements and commune together.
*If you have not yet embraced Jesus Christ by faith, we invite you to reflect on one of the following prayers.
Prayer for those searching for Truth:
Lord Jesus, you claim you are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Please guide me by your Holy Spirit and open my
heart and mind to receive the life you promise. Give me grace to repent of my sin and trust in your perfect sacrifice on my behalf. Teach me what it means to faithfully follow you as Lord. Amen.
Prayer of Faith:
Lord Jesus Christ, I confess that I am sinful. I have sinned by thought, word, and deed. But through your sacrifice
I am loved and accepted by my heavenly Father. Thank you for paying my debt on the cross and for taking the
punishment I deserve. I turn from my sins and trust in you as my living Savior and Lord. Amen.

Porto United English Camp ended it’s first year of ministry with a sports camp from June 16. Alan Johnston will be joining the church ministry staff. He has a deep passion for sports ministry and reaching kids. The Lord is putting together many dots and they are really excited about
the future. Their focus is that the heart of the people will be transformed by the power of the gospel of Christ. Please pray as they desperately need funds for this new ministry in a difficult country. Pray that God would provide Christian coaches. Pray for the Porto United English Camp
which will begin the new ministry year in September.
