Welcome to
the Sedex AGM
& Members’ Forum 2013
The Sedex Board of Directors and Management team are pleased to welcome you
to the 2013 Sedex Annual General Meeting and Members’ Forum, sponsored by
Global Strategy Management Technology Co., Limited.
In 2011/12 Sedex continued to grow and we now have over 28,000 members
worldwide, reinforcing our position as the largest collaborative platform for
managing ethical supply chain information.
Looking ahead to our 10 year anniversary in 2014, this year’s Members Forum
will examine the collaborative impact of responsible sourcing and how companies
and individuals will shape the future. Our keynote speaker, Ed Gillespie from
sustainability communications agency Futerra will set the scene for the day by
exploring the importance and impact of our actions, and examining how we can
take even greater steps to improve standards in global supply chains.
During the day you will get the chance to share your views and ideas in interactive
breakout sessions facilitated by members of the Sedex team. As a membership
organisation your views are vitally important to us so we encourage you to think
about your objectives in the longer term, your emerging needs, the changing
environment you operate in and what you will need from Sedex in the coming years.
The event will finish with a closing plenary from Adrian Gilpin, an expert on
human development and Chairman of the Institute of Human Development, who
will motivate and inspire you to continue your vital work in improving working
conditions for millions of people.
During refreshment breaks and lunch you will have the opportunity to learn more
about Sedex and a range of other organisations in the exhibition area. Don’t forget
to stop by the Sedex stand; our team will be on hand to provide information on
how Sedex and our new sister organisation Sedex Solutions can support your
responsible sourcing programme. You will find a full list of sponsors and exhibitors
on pages 9, 10 and 12 of this programme.
After the main event we will be holding a short drinks reception to celebrate the
launch of the ‘Sustainable Sourcing of Agricultural Raw Materials – A Practitioner’s
Guide’. This will also provide some time for attendees to meet fellow Sedex
members in an informal setting. Please do join us for this if you can.
Thank you for
your attendance
and your continued
support of Sedex
– we hope you
enjoy the day.

Level Works challenges the idea that there exists a
‘one size fits all’ supplier monitoring solution
Level Works was created with the goal of providing result-driven services to
companies that are sincerely trying to have a positive impact on the working
conditions within their supply chain. Our smart, talented and experienced team
has come together to shape services that address the limitations of traditional
code of conduct (COC) programmes – which in most cases offer poor value, drive
supplier problems underground and fail to mitigate risk.
Level Works challenges the idea that there exists a ‘one size fits all’ monitoring
solution. In contrast to most companies, through refined auditing and
assessment techniques, country specific supplier improvement programmes and
specialised projects, we offer a truly tailor made and result driven partnership.

From our experience we know that dialogue up and down the supply chain on

dangerous working conditions in sourcing countries and the impact caused
to people, communities and economies.

Event Sessions
Morning
Keynote: Sizzling Sustainability (9:55–10:40)
Your actions have delivered real progress in working conditions around
the world. We are all involved in a revolutionary, generational shift. Ed will explore
and celebrate why sustainability in all its forms is the most dynamic, exciting
and cutting edge, indeed the only, game in town
Panel session: Why do we need ‘Labour Standards’? (11:00–11:55)
What do we mean by ‘labour standards’ and why are they important? In this panel
session we will explore the importance of labour standards, looking specifically
at initiatives such as the Ruggie Guiding Principles, why they were set up and the
difference it can make for people in the supply chain. We will also look at what
people need to take away from the Ruggie Guiding Principles and other initiatives
in order to make practical improvements at their own sites and those of their suppliers.
Panel session: Collaborating for change (11:55–12:45)
While a lot has been achieved in the area of ethical trade, there is a lot more that
still needs to be done. Engagement both up and down the supply chain is key
to improving standards. In this session, panellists from a variety of sectors will
discuss the best ways of working in partnership with suppliers and customers
to achieve positive outcomes.
19
Afternoon
The Future of Sedex (13:45–14:00)

the opportunity to tell us what you think of Sedex and how we can develop to best
meet your future needs.
What next for Sedex? Meeting your future needs (14:00–15:10)
An interactive session where you get to tell us what you want from Sedex
and ask the team about our latest activities and future direction. You will be
given an allocated time at each ‘station’.
Leaders of change: realising your potential (15:10–16:00)
Adrian Gilpin is an expert on human development and in this final session
will explore the potential of individuals to drive change and make an impact.
Using the ideas generated in this session we hope that you will leave the
event motivated and inspired to go even further in your efforts to drive lasting
improvements that benefit people and businesses throughout the supply chain.

Agriculture Initiative (SAI) Platform and the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH), with
support from Business Social Responsibility (BSR), Sedex Information Exchange
