2015 newsletter “Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:8. We are grateful for the abundant provision we have received through many of you in 2015, for it is as we receive, that we are able to freely give. Jesus said: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” As he proclaimed: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” Luke 4:18-19 Letter from Carlos Garcia, Exec. Director of Amigo Fiel Earlier in the year my brother Hector and I invited three of our most behavioral challenged youth on a special outing to the local amusement park and for hamburgers at McDonald’s (they all chose happy meals to get the special toy). I wanted to spend some time with these three boys to get an insight into their unruly behavior during all activities they were participating in. I found out that Jose, age 13, had lost his older brother, a drug addict, who had committed suicide the previous year. There is no male figure in his home and his single mom struggles to provide for Jose’s other brother and older sister who has a child out of wedlock. Alex, age 12, finds himself very sad and confused because his mom is suffering from cancer and his dad does not have the resources to provide the needed medical care. He is frustrated to see his mom sick and his frustration is manifested as aggression towards others. Isaac is 14 years old and cannot understand why his father, instead of working hard to provide for his family, opted to leave town and abandon his mom, himself, and 3 other brothers. I thank God that through Amigo Fiel we are fulfilling the example Jesus gave us in Luke 4:18-19. As I concluded my evening, I paused to thank God for fulfilling the work of Christ in the lives of these three special boys. To those that support us in prayer and gifts, I thank you again for your faithfulness in “freely giving.” May God Bless you! Our Church 2015 has been a wonderful year for Amigo Fiel . Because of Sunday services being filled to capacity, we installed a simulcast monitor in the downstairs dining room to handle overflow for the elderly and disabled who have difficulty going up the stairs. We also welcomed Joel Cumplido who is teaching Wednesday night Bible Study as well as Friday night Youth Group. In August we baptized many people at a local swimming pool where we also had a splashing time with laughter, food and games. Also in August we welcomed David Bustamante from Costa Rica. David gave an instructive and uplifting workshop on worship. In October, Rigoberto from Piedras Negras came to share an intensive workshop in effective follow-up for new believers. As we write this update we are gearing up for 20152016 Operation Christmas Child which is always a joyful time of the year for us. Amigo Fiel’s Youth Group We have seen an increase of young people attending the Friday night Youth Group. Friday night is geared towards youth ranging from 7th to 12th grade. We are now seeing an average of 65 young people every week. This year our group went on a mission trip to Creel/Copper Canyon, a small town about 9 hours southwest of Juarez. They painted homes, helped in local churches and did street evangelism. We saw much fruit on this particular trip as it helped create unity amongst the kids that participated from Amigo Fiel . Many of the teenagers that attend Amigo Fiel come from broken homes or are orphans who have been living with relatives. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to spend special time with them and get a glimpse into their daily life and needs. We are often reminded that people with the most difficult personalities are the ones that need love and patience the most. Our New Building Project This year we were able to purchase the corner lot directly across from Amigo Fiel – “German’s Corner Store.” We are planning to build a larger sanctuary to accommodate the consistent church growth that is being experienced. We have been looking at floor plans and have been receiving gifts for this project with the hope of starting construction in late 2016. We depend on your prayers for this project as construction in Juarez can be especially slow moving. Nonetheless, we are determined to see it through! Amigo Fiel’s Food Bank The food bank at Amigo Fiel is a ministry that has been in the works for some time. In April of 2015, with the help of Deb Roberts, a volunteer from Albuquerque, we began distributing food “despensas”, as they are called in Mexico. Currently we deliver “despensas”, to about 50 families. Our hope is that the families receiving this food will see the love and provision of God and hopefully give them an interest in learning more about Him. Connecting with people as we deliver has opened the door for us to help them in other ways. Here is one story: Suzi is an elderly woman who lives alone about half a mile from Amigo Fiel. We invited Suzi to church after we painted her home in her favorite color-purple! She soon signed up to receive the despensas, and after a few visits Suzi began asking questions about what it is to know Jesus, how to pray, and how to properly study the Bible. Suzi is now regularly attending our services. Our After School Program After School program is a multi-task ministry that covers many practical needs for our community. We feed 65 to 80 children daily, and have been working on integrating fresher, local fruit from Mexico into their daily meals. Because most of our children come from broken families, we are able to give them the love and support that they need and many times are not getting at home. We help them with homework and introduce them to computers as well as music. Also, a “character building” series is taught that focuses on building a sense of right and wrong, respect and honesty, and incorporates the value of contributing to their local community. Through these activities we have been able to reach entire families! Amigo Fiel provides scholarships for those families that struggle to pay for their children’s education. We strive to make our After School program dynamic while being effective.
