Minor changes of wording were discussed and approved, recorded by Dr.
Bowman
A good deal of discussion on Blackboard Learn System paragraph with intention
to encourage it being the exclusive, supported portal for all online courses
Page 6 and 13 blended enrollment statement needs to parallel language for face to
face courses.
Will examine revised document at November 15 meeting.
Discussion of possibility of moving to Blackboard corporation offsite hosting our
Blackboard courses.

John!distributed!a!document!highlighting!the!latest!revisions!and!outlined!some!of!the!changes.!He!
asked!DEAG!members!to!look!over!the!revisions!before!the!manual!is!officially!finalized!in!the!spring!

Blackboard%Data%and%the%Hosting%Model%
Beth!and!Troy!described!the!new!hosting!model!for!Blackboard!beginning!in!spring!2013,!when!
Blackboard!hosting!will!transfer!from!local!servers!to!a!remote!cloud!server.!This!will!cause!less!strain!on!
local!resources!and!the!FSU!Blackboard!Learning!Management!System!may!!become!more!stable!since!it!
can!be!monitored!!“in!the!cloud”!24/7!by!Blackboard!engineers.!Blackboard!data!on!local!servers!prior!to!
2013!will!be!archived!for!faculty.!

Paul!inquired!about!an!online!withdrawal!process!for!all!classes.!This!would!simplify!the!current!process!
in!which!the!students!have!to!track!down!professors!and!advisors!for!approval!signatures.!Beth!and!Troy!
replied!that!this!would!be!a!workflow!item!for!PAWS!and!that!discussion!of!an!online!withdrawal!

Rik!distributed!the!final!edition!of!this!best!practices!rubric!for!DEAG!review.!!He!stated!that!some!
programs!are!already!using!templates!based!on!the!rubric!and!that!he!is!starting!now!to!use!the!rubric!
with!individual!courses.!

John!mentioned!that!the!deans!should!be!apprised!of!the!rubric;!Paul!gave!feedback!those!templates!
are!reasonable!and!flexible!from!his!experience.!Jean2Marie!suggested!that!Rik!put!DEAG!members!into!

Online%Course%Evaluations!
Much!discussion!on!this!topic!to!elicit!more!student!response!to!online!evaluations:!Should!online!
students!be!locked!out!of!the!final!exam!until!they!evaluate?!!If!so,!that!would!be!a!completely!different!
protocol!from!face2to2face!courses.!John!suggested!an!incentive!strategy!that!is!less!punitive:!!online!
students!wouldn’t!be!able!to!see!final!grades!until!they!submit!evaluations.!!

Troy!added!that!all!student!evaluations!2!both!online!and!face2to2face!2!could!be!moved!to!an!online!
format!to!save!printing!and!paper!costs.!!There!is!already!software!in!place!to!achieve!that.!
These!may!be!issues!for!a!possible!ad!hoc!committee!to!investigate. John!will!talk!to!the!Provost!about!
holding!a!Dean’s!Council!meeting!to!discuss!this.!

Rik!discussed!a!survey!in!the!works!that!would!assess!students’!satisfaction!with!the!course!template!
and!instructional!design.!The!survey!may!first!be!implemented!in!the!Recreation!and!Parks!Management!
