Principal’s Corner
Hello Parents and Caregivers
We’ve had yet another busy week here at
Sherwood.
Last Friday we welcomed lots of parents and
caregivers to our school for the student led
sharing morning. It was lovely to see the children
proudly showing their work and explaining what
they were learning. It was also wonderful to see
so many parents and caregivers who had given up
their free time, or even had time off work to join us
for the morning.
On Tuesday we invited our ESOL parents (English
for Speakers of Other Languages) for a morning
tea and a chat. Once again it was lovely to see so
many parents join us. Parents chatted with each
other and we all shared ideas of how we could
improve our ESOL programme for both our
students and their parents. Sandy Catchpole (our
ESOL teacher) and I thoroughly enjoyed this
positive experience and hope our visitors did too.

Please Enrol Your Child
If you live in our school zone and have a preschool aged child who is due to turn 5 before the
end of June next year please ensure that you
enrol him/her as soon as possible. If you live out
of our school zone and have a child currently
attending our school with a younger sibling about
to turn 5 before next July, please fill in an Out of
Zone Enrolment Form as soon as possible.
Thank you.
Lateness
Unfortunately we seem to have an increasing
number of children arriving late to school. Often
these are children who are late on a regular basis.
It is very important that children arrive on time as
the first part of the morning, in particular, is a very
important part of the school day, where the
agenda and expectations of the day are
discussed.
Please ensure your child/children
arrive on time.
Thank you.

Cross Country
A huge congratulations to the whole school who
all trained hard and did their best during the
school cross country earlier this month. You all did
a fantastic job and should be very proud of
yourselves.
Year 5 and 6 are Energised!
We would like to thank Raymond, from Electrix,
who spoke to the children about energy and
showed them a range of experiments that involved
smoke, flames and even a grapefruit!! The
children and teachers alike thoroughly enjoyed
this and it was a great addition to our Energy
Inquiry.
Year 1 and 2 Visit MOTAT
A special thanks to all the parents and whanau
who came along to cheer the children on, this all
helps to ensure everyone puts in 100% and feels
proud of their run!
As part of our Term 2 inquiry about air, the Year 1
and 2 children visited the Museum Of Transport
And Technology (MOTAT). The day began with a
classroom session lead by a representative of
MOTAT. The children were able to experience the
presence of air and explore ways in which we use
it. One of the best experiments involved the
children making their own flying machine and
putting it into a wind tunnel to see if it would lift.
We were impressed by the number of aeroplanes
they had there and the many different uses they
had. There was much discussion about the size of
the wheels, the propellers and the colours each
plane had been painted. It was a very enjoyable
day!
