SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS
Reading (25 points)
Read any biography on any architect, painter, or sculptor. Prepare a 5-minute oral essay about the book.
You will give your oral essay on the first 90-minute session of the school year.
Give a brief summary of the artist’s life.
Talk about his/her major works.
Discuss his/her contributions to the world of art.
Journal (5 points for each entry)
Visit 3 art museums. From each museum, choose two works of art to write about. In your journal entries,
Discuss the impact/importance of each work and
Determine and explain if they are what you consider “art.”
Make sure you tape or glue a visual of the artwork and your admission ticket on the left-hand side of your journal.
Bring your journal on the first day of class.
Art File Box (1 point for each card; 1 for decorating your box and creating tabs for artistic ages)
You are to being compiling your study materials for the AP exam.
Decorate your shoebox.
Create a tab for each of the following: Stone Age, Mesopotamian Art, Egyptian Art, Greek Art,
Roman Art, Byzantine, Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical, Romantic,
Realism, Impressionism, Post Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Fauvism, Expressionism, Cubism,
Dadaism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, Symbolism, Abstract, Pop Art, Minimalism, and
Installation Art.
Print and paste on a colored index card a visual of 2 works of art that epitomize each artistic age.
On the back, write the title of the work and the name of the artist.
On a white index card, write the significance of the work.
Bring your Art File Box on the first day of class.
