Steps to a Successful Registration at
Rio Hondo College

Step 1: Apply Online
New and Returning Students: You must complete a new Admissions Application. To find the online application go to
www.riohondo.edu and select “Apply Online to RHC” from the left menu.
Continuing Students: There is no need to re-apply to the college. Update Personal Information if needed on
AccessRIO by going to the “Student” tab and then “My Student Records”.
Enrichment Students (High School grades 9-12): Follow the steps on page 2 of this document.
Step 2: Check Your RioMail Account
This FREE email account is how you will receive waitlist notifications, financial aid follow ups, class/schedule
change notifications, and instructor emails. You can forward your RioMail to another email account that you check
regularly.
Check your RioMail by going to AccessRIO (select the “Welcome to My AccessRIO” button on the RHC webpage).
Log-in instructions are provided on the home page.
Step 3: Take the Assessment Test
In order to enroll in Math, English, Reading, or ESL you must take the appropriate placement tests.
The mandatory Math Pre-test used for review should be completed before taking your Math assessment test. Bring
this completed pre-test with you to the Assessment Office (LR141) on the day you take your assessment test. The PreTest can be found at www.riohondo.edu/admissions/assessment

Step 4: Attend an Orientation
Computerized orientation is offered in the Assessment Center, located in the Learning Resource Center, Room

Step 5: See a Rio Hondo Counselor
Get assistance determining your class schedule and developing a Student Educational Plan. Call (562) 908-3410 to
make an appointment with a counselor or by visit the Student Services Building, Room SS160.
Step 6: Apply for Financial Aid
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed online before you register for classes.
Types of aid include Board of Governor’s Waiver (BOGW), grants, loans and work-study employment. If you are
eligible for BOGW your tuition will be waived; however, you will still be responsible for paying your student fees.
To apply for the FAFSA go online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Rio Hondo College’s school code is 001269.
Step 7: Register for Classes on AccessRIO
All students are to register for their classes on AccessRIO by selecting the “Welcome to My AccessRIO” button.
Log-in instructions are provided on the home page. After logging in, go to the “Student” tab and then “Add or Drop
Classes”.
Be sure to check the “Registration Important Dates” on the website for add/drop dates.
Make sure that you have met the prerequisite for the class you want. If you took the prerequisite at another school
bring your transcripts to the Counseling Office so a counselor can clear you for that class.
If you want to register for 19 or more units you need a counselor’s signature.
If classes are full you may be placed on a wait list. Check your RioMail for wait list notifications.
It is your responsibility to ensure you are properly registered in each class and to drop the classes you do not want. It
is recommended that you print your schedule each semester as a confirmation.
Step 8: Pay Your Fees
Fees are due when you register. You will NOT be billed. IF YOU DO NOT PAY BY THE APPROPRIATE DROP
DATE YOUR CLASSES WILL BE DROPPED.
Pay by credit card while registering on AccessRIO.
Check/money order payments may be submitted by mail, or in person at the Admissions Payment Window.
Cash payments for current semester must be made in person at the Admissions Payment Window.
Parking passes can be purchased online via AccessRIO or in person on the 1st floor of the Student Services Building.
Step 9: Attend First Class Meeting
In order to ensure enrollment in the course and obtain information about books and materials, you must attend the
first class meeting. IF YOU DO NOT PLAN ON COMPLETING THE COURSE, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
TO DROP.

Steps to a Successful Registration at
Rio Hondo College
High School Enrichment Students
If you are currently enrolled in high school grades 9-12 while taking classes at Rio Hondo College, you are a high
school enrichment student.
Step 1: Apply Online
You must complete a new RHC Admissions Application every semester. To find the online application, go to
www.riohondo.edu and select “Apply Online to RHC” from the left menu. Once your submitted application
has been processed, you will be sent an email with your student ID.
Step 2: Submit your Petition For Concurrent Enrollment
Once you have your RHC student ID number, fill out and sign the Petition for Concurrent Enrollment (on the
RHC Admissions webpage). Your parent must also sign this form.
HIGH SCHOOL ENRICHMENT STUDENTS ARE LIMITED TO 7 UNITS OR 2 NON-REMEDIAL
CLASSES PER SEMESTER.
Obtain authorization from your high school on the Petition for Concurrent Enrollment.
You (the student) must submit in person your completed Petition for Concurrent Enrollment to the
Admissions Office at Rio Hondo College. Only completed petitions will be accepted. You will also be
required to show a valid picture ID card.
Even though enrichment students will not be charged for their classes, they are still obligated to pay the
College Services fee unless a waiver is requested and filled out at the time the Petition for Concurrent
Enrollment is submitted. Ask for this fee waiver at the RHC Admissions window.
Step 3: Get Pre-requisite Clearance
Some courses have pre-requisites and these will be indicated in the online catalog entry for that course. If the
course for which you wish to enroll has a pre-requisite, you must take a copy of your official high school
transcript to a RHC counselor for a pre-requisite clearance.
Step 4: Take the Assessment Test

form. Be sure to check the “Registration Important Dates” on the website for add/drop dates. The College
Services fee must be paid (or have been previously waived) prior to making any changes to your registration.
If classes are full, you may be placed on a wait list. Check your RioMail for wait list notifications.

Enrichment Students younger than 9th grade
Students younger than 9th grade will be admitted if they meet the exceptional student criteria (highly gifted students
with an IQ score 130 or above). These students may only enroll in college level courses (degree applicable courses),
must meet prerequisites, and must show documentation of their gifted status and proof of IQ score.
