STORYLINES
• Delaware plays the second game of its West Coast road trip on Sunday afternoon at CSU Bakersfield.
• The Blue Hens dropped a 78-60 decision at Cal Poly on Friday, falling to 0-2 on
the young season. Delaware will look to avoid its first 0-3 start since dropping four

Barnes in seven previous games, when Barnes was the head coach at former CAA
member Georgia State. Delaware prevailed in four of those seven games.

the Blue Hens in scoring during each of the first two games this season. Hayes currently ranks third in the CAA by averaging 19.5 points per game.
• Point guard Kory Holden added 12 points vs. the Mustangs, and has also
reached double figures in his first two collegiate contests.
• Delaware played without junior forward Marvin King-Davis, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. The Blue Hens utilized a nine-man rotation at Cal

Last Time Out
Blue Hens One of Least Experienced Teams in D-I
Cal Poly closed the first half with a dominating run as the Mustangs
opened up a huge halftime lead and went on to defeat Delaware, 7860, in non-conference action Friday night at the Mott Athletics Center.
The Mustangs, who improved to 2-1 on the year, led 20-16 at the
7:46 mark of the opening half following three free throws by Blue Hen
sophomore guard Cazmon Hayes, but took over from there.
Cal Poly scored the next seven points, and following a Kory Holden
three-pointer, went on a 16-0 tear to extend the margin to 43-19 with
1:13 on the clock. Hayes finally ended the spurt with a three-point
play, but Ridge Shipley buried a three-pointer and Brian Bennett
beat the horn with a jumper to make it a 48-22 margin at the break.
From there Delaware only got closer than 20 when Chivarsky Corbett
drained a last minute three-pointer to cap the scoring.
Shipley finished with a career-high 21 points for the Mustangs, who
shot 18 of 33 (54.5%) during the opening half and knocked down 12
triples for the game. Bennett contributed 12 points for Cal Poly, David
Nwaba chipped in with 10, and Maliik Love dished out a game-high
eight assists.
Hayes paced Delaware (0-2) for the second straight game with a
career-high 22 points, as he knocked down three treys and finished 9
of 10 from the foul line. Holden reached double figures for the second
consecutive contest with 12 points, while Corbett added nine on three
shots from long range. Barnett Harris grabbed six rebounds as he led
UD in boards for the second straight game.
Delaware, playing without junior forward Marvin King-Davis who
missed the contest with a recurring hamstring injury, utilized a nineman rotation that featured five freshmen and four sophomores.
After shooting just 6 of 25 from the field during the opening 20
minutes, Delaware responded to score 38 second half points as the
Blue Hens outscored Cal Poly by eight in the final stanza.
The Mustangs increased the lead to 64-29 six minutes into the
period but UD would not quit as the Blue Hens scored nine straight
points, culminated by a Devonne Pinkard three-pointer, to close within
26 points with 11:39 left.
Three minutes later Anthony Mosley scored seven consecutive Delaware points, burying a three-pointer from the top of the key to cut
the margin to 69-45. However the Blue Hens would never seriously
threaten as the Mustangs put the finishing touches on the victory.
With senior Kyle Anderson and Marvin King-Davis out of the lineup,
Delaware utilized a nine-man rotation at Cal Poly that featured five
freshmen and four sophomores. According to statsheet.org which computes an “experience per minute” stat which is the sum of minutes
each player plays multiplied by his class year divided by the total team
minutes, Delaware is the second least experienced team in the nation.
Central Arkansas is the least experienced, followed by the Blue
Hens, Binghamton, USC and Vanderbilt.
Delaware vs. CSU Bakersfield
Holden Solid in UD Debut
Today’s game will be the first ever meeting between Delaware and
CSU Bakersfield. Additionally this afternoon’s contest will be the Blue
Hens’ first ever game against a team currently in the WAC.
UD freshman Kory Holden started at the point during his Blue Hen
debut, and the rookie did not disappoint. Holden scored six of UD’s first
eight points, and went on to finish second on the team with 13 points.
He also grabbed six rebounds, dished out five assists and committed
just two turnovers in 32 minutes of action.
Holden again reached double figures by pouring in 12 points Friday
at Cal Poly, ranking second on the team in scoring during both contests.
Monté Ross vs. Rod Barnes
Monté Ross and Rod Barnes have previously faced off seven times
from 2007-11 during the four years Barnes coached at Georgia State
when the Panthers were a member of the CAA. Delaware won four of
those seven meetings.
King-Davis Doubtful With Hamstring Injury
Blue Hen junior forward Marvin King-Davis suffered a hamstring
injury during the preseason, and after playing in the Blue Hens’ season
opener at Liberty, he was unable to play Friday at Cal Poly. King-Davis
is doubtful for today’s game.

Hayes Leading Blue Hens in Early Going
Sophomore guard Cazmon Hayes led Delaware at Liberty by
scoring a career-high 17 points, and then eclipsed that mark with a
22-point effort Friday at Cal Poly.
Hayes currently ranks third in the CAA by averaging 19.5 points per
game. After scoring 63 points all of last season, he already has 39 this
year.
Crashing the Boards
Delaware held a 47-37 rebounding advantage over Liberty, the
most since UD grabbed 52 boards against Rider on Dec. 31, 2012.
Additionally, the Blue Hens’ 23 offensive boards were also the most
since snaring 24 during that Rider game.
Delaware currently leads the CAA by averaging 41.5 rebounds per
game, while the Blue Hens’ +2.5 rebounding margin is the second best
in the league.

Pinkard Looking To Get Going
Anderson On Delaware Career Lists
Delaware Basketball on the Internet
Devonne Pinkard scored five points Friday at Cal Poly, breaking a
nine-game scoreless streak dating back to last season.
Pinkard went scoreless during his final eight games of the 2013-14
season, as he finished the year by missing his final 12 shots from the
field. From the home game vs. Northeastern on Feb. 3 through the first
two games of this year, Pinkard is just 5 for 43 from the floor.
Kyle Anderson currently ranks third in school history with both 215
career three-pointers made and 610 attempted. He needs to make just
14 more three-pointers to become UD’s career leader.
Anderson also has scored 960 career points, and needs 40 more to
become the 32nd played in UD history to reach the 1,000-point mark.

since the Blue Hens went 0 of 11 from deep vs. UNCW on Feb. 2, 2013.
UD’s overall field goal percentage of 29.9 was the lowest since the
Blue Hens shot 28.8 percent during a loss at Towson on Feb. 6, 2013.
Delaware shot 31.4 percent at Cal Poly, and has shot under 32
percent in consecutive games for the first time since road contests at
VCU and Penn on Jan. 14 and 17, 2002. Additionally the Blue Hens
have scored 60 points or fewer in consecutive games to start a season
for the first time since 1978-79.
Kory Holden Starts at the Point
Kory Holden started the season opener at Liberty, becoming the
fifth freshman point guard to start his first career game under Monté
Ross.
Brian Johnson started Ross’ first game in Newark vs. Marist in
2006, while Devon Saddler started the 2010 opener at Ohio University. Jarvis Threatt and Khalid Lewis each started the 2011 lidlifter at
Radford.
Anderson Nearly Breaks Single-Season 3’s Mark
Kyle Anderson and Davon Usher each drilled 85 three-pointers last
season, tied for third in the CAA and tied for second on the UD single
season three-pointers chart.
Travellin’ Blue Hens
Delaware is opening its season with five straight road games in a
14-day span. Following Monday’s opener at Liberty, the Blue Hens are
currently in California for a week-long stint in the Golden State. The
Blue Hens then face 2014 Big East regular season champion Villanova
at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center next Sunday, Nov. 30.
Delaware plays its home opener on Wednesday, Dec. 3 vs. Army.

of Charleston on Feb. 5, the most by a Blue Hen in Bob Carpenter
Center history.
Saddler and Usher were each first team All-CAA and NABC AllDistrict 10 honorees. Carl Baptiste was a third team All-CAA pick,
while Jarvis Threatt was named the CAA Tournament Most Outstanding
Player.
A Big Fan
On the morning of last year’s CAA title game, Blue Hen head coach
Monté Ross took a phone call from Vice President of the United States
Joe Biden, a 1965 UD graduate. Biden also called Ross the following
day, congratulating him on the league championship victory.
In early May Biden helped lead the UD team on a tour of the White
House, prior to hosting them at his residence at the U.S. Naval Observatory for a cookout dinner.

MONTÉ
ROSS
HEAD COACH
9TH SEASON
WINSTON-SALEM
STATE ‘92
Monté Ross is currently in his ninth year as the head coach of the
University of Delaware men’s basketball program.
Ross, who pronounces his first name “mon-tay”, is the 23rd head
coach in University of Delaware men’s basketball history and currently
ranks second in school history with 115 career victories. This is his first
head coaching position after an outstanding career as a Division I assistant coach for 13 seasons.
After two successful years in 2011-12 and 2012-13, Ross led the
Blue Hens to one of the best seasons in school history in 2013-14,
when he was named the Colonial Athletic Association Coach of the Year,
NSSA Big House Gaines Division I Coach of the Year, and the NABC UPS
District 10 Coach of the Year.
Delaware finished the season 25-10, tied for the second most wins
in a season in school history, and won its first 11 regular season conference games en route to the program’s first CAA regular season title.
The Blue Hens secured their eighth regular season league title in school
history, while UD’s 14 conference wins tied for the second most in a
single season.
UD won 13 consecutive games from Jan. 1 through Feb. 12, tied
for the second longest streak in school history, while the Blue Hens’ 11
road victories on the year also ranked second in program history.
Delaware then won three straight contests in the CAA tournament
in Baltimore, including a dramatic 75-74 comeback win over William
& Mary in the final, to claim the fifth conference tournament title in
school history.
The Blue Hens earned the No. 13 seed in the East Regional, battling fourth-seeded and 11th ranked Michigan State before falling to
the Spartans, 93-78, in an NCAA Tournament second round game in
Spokane, Wash.
Ross was instrumental in the development of guard Devon Saddler, who set a school record and currently ranks sixth in CAA history
with 2,222 career points. Saddler earned All-CAA honors during all four
years of his career, and was named to the 2014 Lou Henson Mid-Major
All-America Team.
Saddler was joined on the first team All-CAA and All-District 10
teams by fellow senior Davon Usher, who set a UD single season record
by scoring 679 points during the 2013-14 season.
The Blue Hens’ resurgence began in 2011-12 when Delaware
posted a record of 18-14, finished fifth in the CAA with a record of
12-6, and qualified for post-season play. Ross led the Hens to the postseason for the first time since 2001 with a first round meeting with
two-time defending NCAA runner-up Butler in the College Basketball
Insider (CBI) Tournament.
The individual awards were plentiful for the Blue Hens as Saddler, the league’s second leading scorer at 18.8 points per game, and
Jamelle Hagins each earned second team All-CAA and second team
NABC All-District laurels while guard Jarvis Threatt earned a spot on
the CAA All-Rookie team.
Hagins, who set the school record for career blocked shots, was
named to the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Defensive All-American
team while Threatt earned a spot on the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major
Freshman All-American squad.
Ross followed up that successful campaign with an even better
showing in 2012-13 as the Blue Hens finished 19-14 overall, placed
second in the CAA with a 13-5 league mark, and advanced the CAA
Tournament Semifinals for the first time in 10 years.
