Author of over 60 written or edited books and an extensive number of academic articles on
democracy, democratization, globalization, global governance and global policy – over a 30-year
period. One of the most cited international social scientists: according to one standard measure
regularly in the top 15 social scientists in the world; the highest H-Index (69) in the UK in Political
Science and International Relations, with over 35,000 citations. Among most cited books are Global
Transformations (1999) cited 6,636, and Democracy and the Global Order (1995) cited 4,449.
Regularly invited to make presentations to high ranking public officials including Heads of State,
diplomats, military leaders and other government officials, and intergovernmental organisations.
Far reaching administrative and management experience in both universities and the private sector.
Founder and Director of Polity Press (www.polity.co.uk), the Durham Global Policy Institute and the
Wiley-Blackwell flagship journal, Global Policy (www.globalpolicyjournal.com).
Wide ranging teaching experience at a diversity of university levels, including developing and
implementing new degree programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in both leading
