A That's the guiding principle for Steve and Kay Ribbing, the owners of T.K. Ribbing's in Falconer. For the last 15 years, the Ribbings have opened the doors of their restaurant and invited the community to share a free Thanksgiving meal and fellowship. A Wheeled out onto the stage on a table-like device hidden by member of the Unexpected Guests, a Jamestown-based improv comedy troupe, Barry says his musical experience in the past has been limited to small parts in college and work as a stage director. ''I'm a sucker to do performances'' Barry said, ''and if it's a cameo, it's even better.'' The role, though open to both men and women, is usually performed by men because ''it is so much funnier,'' according to Elizabeth Bush, Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet administrative director. In its history of performing the wintertime show, Mrs. Bush said the Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet has generally cast more men than women in the character's role - which is typical of company's around the country. A small role where performers can be campy and serve without having to do too much dancing, the Mother Ginger character is many times played by local celebrities. Admitting it can be hard to be graceful in the costume at times, Barry said he is working his upper body movements and pearl twirling for this year's production by orders of Monika Aldrich, the Chautauqua Regional Youth Ballet's artistic director. New for Barry is the fact that this year a student, Brittney Pearson, is directing Mother Ginger's portion of the ballet. ''I think it's really great having a student do a portion of the directing,'' Barry said. ''It's good experience for me, for her and for the other girls especially. You see that in this production, the young women who have started out as mice work their way up to Ginger Snaps and so on. They keep going and eventually become the principal dancers in the production.'' You’re not the next country superstar. You’re a drunk in a nowhere bar. Three people were arrested after one of them hit a karaoke DJ with a bottle because he didn’t play his song, according to the News Times. The paper described the incident as a “fracas,” which sounds like a large Mexican side dish broke out at a local karaoke bar. One of the men, who was “apparently drunk,” started arguing with the DJ because he skipped a song that he wanted to sing. The bar threw the guy out, but one of his friends hit the DJ with a bottle because that’s what good friends do, completely back you up no matter how stupid and dumb you’re idea really is. It lies near the center of Lighthouse Reef, a small atoll 45 miles from the mainland and Belize City. The hole is circular in shape, over 1,000 feet across and 400 feet deep. It was formed as a limestone cave system during the last ice age when sea levels were much lower. As the ocean began to rise again the caves flooded, and the roof collapsed. This site was made famous by Jacques-Yves Cousteau who declared it one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world. In 1971, he brought his ship, the Calypso, to the hole to chart its depths. C Investigations by this expedition confirmed the hole’s origin as typical Karst limestone formations, formed before rises in sea level in at least four stages, leaving ledges at depths of 70, 160 and 300 feet. Stalactites were retrieved from submerged caves, confirming their previous formation above sea level. Some of these stalactites were also off-vertical by 10° - 13° in a consistent orientation, thus indicating that there had also been some past geological shift and tilting of the underlying plateau, followed by a long period in the current plane. This is a popular spot amongst recreational scuba divers, who are lured by the opportunity to dive in crystal clear water and meet several species of fish, including giant groupers, nurse sharks and several types of reef sharks, such as the Caribbean Reef Shark or the Blacktip Shark. Other species of sharks, like the bull shark or hammerheads, have been reported there, but are not regular sightings. Usually, dive trips to the Great Blue Hole are full-day trips, which include one dive in the Blue Hole and two further dives in nearby reefs.
