YOUTH MEMBERSHIPS (AGES 6-14) & YOUTH PROGRAMS (AGES 1-14) Assistance may be granted for Youth Memberships and youth programs (some limitations apply). Applications are available at the Y Welcome Center. Parents or guardians must provide household gross income and household size. Children between the ages of 1 and 5 years old are not old enough to have their own Facility Membership, but they can use a sliding scale discount for Program Associate class fees. Also a parent can join with the child as part of a 1-Adult Family or 2-Adult Family Facility Membership and use the sliding scale discount off Facility Member program rates. Program Associate class fees will be discounted the same percentage based on the chart on the inside of this flyer. YOUTH MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS The following activities are included with Youth Memberships: the Game Room and KidFit Center (ages 6-14), youth recreation open times in the Gym (see Gymnasium schedule) and several youth swims each week. (See program brochure and schedules for activity information.) In addition, youth members are eligible for Facility Member rates on all classes. Youth ages 6 & 7 must have parent or legal guardian in the YMCA at all times. ADULT MEMBERSHIPS Adults have two membership options: Silver or Gold. Please review the Y’s membership pricing brochure to determine which membership will meet your needs and budget. WORK TRADE DETAILS (BASED ON AVAILABILITY OF THE WORK TRADE POSITIONS) 1. Must be eligible for Sliding Fee discounts to qualify for Work Trade. 2. Work Trade is based on 100% of the normal membership fee or whatever percentage the applicant cannot pay for. 3. Everyone must make an affordable payment towards their membership. The balance is earned at the minimum wage rate (ie a balance of $400 is divided by $8/hour for a total of 50 hours of work). 4. Work Trade applicants must sign a contract. Violating the terms of the contract cancels the membership. SLIDING FEE SCALE LIMITATIONS 1. Sliding scale discounts are not available for all programs and services (usually these are activities taught or provided by a Non-Y instructor). Check at the Welcome Center for details. 2. Day Camps, Before & Afterschool Child Care and YPreschool have a separate assistance application procedure. SLIDING FEE SCALE PRICING FOR ALL 3. Use of the sliding fee scale is limited to a firstcome, first-serve basis for programs such as day camps, child care, Preschool, swimming lessons and gymnastics. 4. If you are a Facility Member (Gold or Silver) with Sliding Fee Scale approval, your discount for programs and/or classes will be reduced from the Silver Membership class fees. If you are a Program Associate, your reduced rate will be taken off the Program Associate price. See page 3 of the Member Handbook for additional information. RE-APPLYING FOR SLIDING FEE SCALE: 1. Recipients must re-apply every 12 months for assistance ($10.00 FILING FEE each year). 2. Applicants who re-apply in subsequent years are encouraged to write a brief letter explaining how they or their children benefited from their previous Y involvement and attach it to their application. 3. We encourage all of our members to volunteer. If funds are limited, applicants who write letters and/or volunteer at the Y during the previous year will be given priority when they re-apply. 4. If the Y modifies this policy current members will be given a two month notice. NOTE: All memberships, including Youth Memberships, can be paid for in 10 equal payments at the Welcome Center. The monthly payments for a Youth Membership at 80% off would be about $2/month. Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility are the cornerstones of the Y. Rev. 02/2012 The Y will not deny anyone from becoming a member or participating in most activities due to lack of funds. Some programs, classes or camps do have a limited number of sliding fee slots. Funds for Sliding Fee Scale Assistance have been made available through the generous contributions of Y friends to the Y’s Strong Kids & Families Campaign, Y-Kids to Camp Golf Tournament and the United Way of Franklin County. Sliding Fee Scale assistance for some programs, camps and classes may be limited and the Y reserves the right to modify these policies and the income scale at any time. THE YMCA IN GREENFIELD 451 Main Street, Greenfield MA 01301-3367 413-773-3646 • ymcaingreenfield.org SLIDING FEE SCALE POLICY ADULT SLIDING FEE SCALE PROCEDURE This is a very confidential process where only the Sliding Fee Scale administrator looks at the submitted information. The Y will not deny anyone a Y Membership or participation in most activities due to lack of funds (Some programs, classes or camps have a limited number of sliding-fee slots). While participants are expected to pay their fair share of operating costs, use of the sliding fee scale and/or work trade may be obtained by completing a sliding fee scale application. The amount of assistance is determined by family size and household income. Adult applicants may receive assistance of 20-70% for membership and programs. Youth can receive 20-80% assistance for memberships, camps or programs The source of these funds are the Y’s Strong Kids & Family Campaign, the Y’s Kids to Camp Golf Tournament and the United Way of Franklin County. Adults (ages 15 and over) must work trade any portion of the membership fee or program fee for which they are unable to pay. Anyone interested in using the sliding fee scale may pick up an application at the Welcome Center of the Y. • ALL APPLICANTS (15+) must pay a $10 non-refundable filing fee. First year members also pay a Health Deposit (price to be determined from percentage of assistance awarded) which will be refunded after 13 months of continous membership. This deposit is a one time fee as long as you stay an active member. • ASSISTANCE will be granted on the basis of financial need based on household size and total household gross income. Our subsidy guide chart will be used to determine initial eligibility. Depending upon gross monthly income or gross annual income and the number of household members, the YMCA in Greenfield can offer 20% to 70% off membership fees and program fees for adults. In some instances, an interview will be required prior to the approval of this application. The Y reserves the right to refuse assistance to any applicant. • ONCE APPROVED, arrangements will be made for you to pay your share of the membership fee by bank draft or in 10 monthly installments paid at the Y Welcome Center. Work trade in exchange for membership is available (subject to available positions) if you are unable to pay the fee. If you decide the membership dues are too high for a Family Membership and you do not want to work trade, please consider purchasing Youth Memberships for your children (ages 6 to 14). If you have children younger than 6 they can qualify for a percentage off the Program Associate class fees. • PLEASE ALLOW at least 7 to 14 working days for your sliding fee scale application to be processed by the Y to determine eligibility. You will be contacted in writing by the YMCA in Greenfield regarding the status of your application.
