Two Process Work Station
With failure and capacity scheduling
 Jobs arrive randomly in the batches of 4 jobs and wait in the buffer while
the Drilling machine is busy. They are processed by the machine and leave
the system to the Packing machine after this process, the jobs leave the
system. Job interarrival times are exponentially distributed with a mean of
12 minutes, while Drilling times are exponentially distributed with a mean
of 2 minutes and Packing process takes exactly 2 minutes. There are some
failures in Drilling machine that uptimes are distributed uniformly with
min 100 and max 200 minutes and downtimes are exponentially
distributed with mean 1 minute. Also there are a scheduling in Packing
process such that in first 8 hours only one job can be processed at the
same time, but in the second 8 hours by adding another worker, we can
process 2 jobs at the same time with that machine. Simulate this model
for 1 replication and the length of simulation is 24 hours.
Two Process Work Station (Solution in ARENA)
 According to the first Lab note in ARENA we should define the model in
ARENA as you see:
Two Process Work Station (Solution in ARENA)
Defining the arrivals
 By double clicking on Create 1 we ca define the arrivals according to the
problem data in the window, by following these steps:

Defining the failure time for Drilling process
 We need to add the Advanced Process to the Project bar.
 We should define the failure in the Failure from Advanced Process.
 We should select defined failure for the resource that has failure.
 To do these steps, follow the next 3 slides.

 Now, define the failure characteristics in the row 1 in the failure
spreadsheet and name it Drilling Failure:

Defining the capacity scheduling for Packing process
 Which Schedule Rule should we select in ARENA????
 If the capacity decreasing schedule is large compare to capacity
increasing schedule, we select “WAIT” schedule rule.
 If the capacity increasing schedule is large compare to process time,
we select “IGNORE” schedule rule.
