Students who feel course material has been mastered, either through coursework completed outside DeVry for which transfer credit cannot be given or through self-study, may request a challenge exam for the course, provided they have never been enrolled in the course at DeVry and have not previously attempted the challenge exam. Scores Accepted Proficiency credit is granted for a course when students score 80% or higher on the challenge examination. Testing Deadlines The testing must be completed and the results evaluated prior to the end of the course drop period. Ineligible Courses The following courses are not eligible for challenge credit and must be taken at DeVry University. • The Liberal Arts and Sciences Capstone course (LAS432) • All Senior Projects • All courses with the CARD prefix • Internship Courses How Do I Apply to Take a Challenge Exam? Students can fill out an Application for Challenge Exam form with their Student Success Coach/Student Success Advisor. The process will go as follows: 1. Students should meet with their Student Success Coach/Student Success Advisor to confirm the course is available to take the Challenge Examination. If the course is available, the student can submit their application to their SSC/SSA for approval by the Dean of the College. (Please allow for a 24 hour turnaround from the Dean.) 2. The SSC/SSA will notify the student regarding approval or rejection of the exam by the Dean. The $5 per credit hour non-refundable fee (per exam) is payable to the Cashier in the Student Central Office. Payment can be made over the phone. It can also be made in person the day of the exam. (The Comp100 Exam does not have a charge.) 3. The student can then contact the Office of the Registrar & Testing Center to set an appointment to take the test. 4. The completed application form will be given to the Office of the Registrar & Testing Center prior to the date of your test from the Student Central Office. What Happens After I Get My Results? Students who score a PASS on a challenge exam will be awarded an official grade of “PR” for the course. Students seeking to take courses for credit in place of passed challenge exam should see their Student Success Coach/Student Success Advisor for scheduling changes.
