FedEx Cares Week Needs You
July/August 2011

What happens when thousands of FedEx team members in dozens of countries
come together for a few hours during one special week? We touch the lives of
thousands of needy people in the communities where we work and live.
Mark your calendars
FedEx Cares Week, our global effort to encourage employees to give back to
our communities, is scheduled for Sept. 12 to 17 (Sept. 17 to 25 in the APAC
region). With donations to non-profits down, the time and talents we give have
never been more valuable.

“One week around the globe, employees in purple shirts are everywhere. People
want to be a part of it,” says Sarah Hickman, senior communications specialist,
Global Citizenship. “FedEx Cares Week was founded to get our people involved
and working with United Way agencies to be part of the tremendous work these
agencies do in the community.”
Catch the fever
Giving back is contagious, and FedEx Cares Week, now in its seventh year, has spread quickly. It started in 2005 in eight
U.S. cities. Last year more than 3,400 FedEx employees in 47 countries and 33 U.S. cities participated. In all, they
contributed more than 16,000 hours. Expanding to Canada this year means that FedEx Cares Week will be celebrated in
every FedEx region around the world.
“It was a very exciting experience to work with FedEx France to organize its first FedEx Cares Week,” says Bénédicte de
Saint-Pierre, President and CEO, United Way France. “We are happy to say that we agreed to build a long-term
relationship to strengthen our community impact program dedicated to a school for youth-at-risk in the north area of Paris.”
Most impressive is that the rapid growth reflects a grassroots, employee-driven movement. FedEx Cares Week was a
success in 2010 because employees around the world stepped forward to coordinate their local efforts.
“The strong, steady growth shows that employees want to give back to their communities,” says Vicki Carayiannis,
communications advisor, Global Citizenship. “Our employees’ enthusiasm for making a difference in their communities
speaks to the FedEx culture.”
Our global strategy
FedEx Cares Week plays a prominent role in our development of a global citizenship strategy. We proudly support the tens
of thousands of FedEx employees who actively engage with their communities. Many of you already get information year
round at FedExCares.com. For example, stories and photos from last year’s FedEx Cares Week are posted on the site.
The site also features a function that helps employees find local FedEx opportunities.
During 2012, we plan to formally roll out our management system, which will enable us to track the many hours that team
members give to help improve their communities during FedEx Cares Week and throughout the year.
