FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Every student who is thinking about going to college should complete the FAFSA. By filling out this application, you are applying for federal student aid, as well as state and college-specific financial aid. Mrs. Nowak will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday, February 23 at 6 pm to help students and parents with this important application.
Mr. Rob Roose from Alpena Community College’s financial aid office will be presenting and asks that parents and students bring their tax information so that the forms can be complete at this time.

American Legion Auxiliary
This scholarship is available to daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, nieces and sisters and step of the aforementioned, of any honorably discharged or deceased men/women veterans. Applicants must include a copy of the veteran’s discharge papers, two letters of recommendation, a transcript of grades and a copy of income tax form or FAFSA. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline: April 30, 2016 .
Community Financial Margaret Dunning and George Lawton Scholarships
There will be 17 - $1000 scholarships available to students who have their own account at Community Financial
Credit Union. The application to be considered for these scholarships is available online at www.cfcu.org/scholarships . Deadline: Received by March 15, 2016.
Edelweiss Garden Club Scholarship
There are two scholarships available for $750 each, given by the Edelweiss Garden Club. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of educational excellence, awards or achievements, character, initiative and experience and financial need. Applicants must be planning to major in one of the following fields of study: Agriculture Education, Horticulture,
Floriculture, Landscape Design, Golf Course Management, Botany, Biology, Plant Pathology/Science, Forestry,
Agronomy, Environmental Concerns, Environmental Conservation, City (Rural and Urban) Planning, Wildlife Science,

Garland Charity Classic Scholarship
This scholarship is offered to graduating seniors to encourage professional development. Financial support is provided for enrollment in an accredited undergraduate academic program leading to a degree. Applicants must be a high school graduate of either JLHS or Atlanta HS and must provide evidence of enrollment in a university, college or junior college for the 2016-2017school year. Incomplete and late applications will not be considered.
Applications must be postmarked by April 15, 2016 .
Gaylord Ladies Eagles Auxiliary
There are two $500 scholarships available to assist two upcoming college freshmen who are related to a member of the Gaylord Eagle Aeries & Auxiliary. Students must be accepted at an accredited college or university. If you are related to a member of Gaylord Eagles, see Mrs. Nowak for an application. Deadline: April 15, 2016.
J-L to MSU Scholarship
This scholarship was established in 2003-04 by Mr. Alfred C. West Jr. and Mr. Stephen R. Poland. It is awarded to a student who graduates from JLHS and continues their education at Michigan State University. Applications will be judged on academics, extracurricular activities, a desire to succeed and a commitment to making a positive contribution to others. Johannesburg-Lewiston Education Association Scholarship
The teaching staff of Johannesburg-Lewiston Schools gives this scholarship to one senior per year. To be eligible, students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and be pursuing higher education in a certified college, business, trade or technical school. Deadline: April 1, 2016 .
Kiwanis Club of Gaylord Foundation
This scholarship is intended for someone who has spent a lot of time doing things for their community. Applicants for this scholarship must completely fill out an application (available in the guidance office) and submit it along with the following 4 attachments; (1) A letter or recommendation from an individual involved in a community service endeavor in which the applicant was involved, (2) A detailed list of community service projects that you have undertaken during high school and estimate the time spent on each, (3) A resume and personal statement which includes scholastic, extracurricular, civic and employment data and (4) A high school transcript. Be sure to include any information regarding honors and awards. Include in your personal statement any information that would encourage the Kiwanis
Club of Gaylord Foundation, a community service organization, to select you for this scholarship. Deadline: March

LSSU – Bruce and Marian Huston Family Scholarship
Seniors who are planning to attend Lake Superior State University in the fall are invited to apply for this scholarship.
Students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Applications are available in the guidance office.

Lewiston Garden Club
The Lewiston Garden Club offers this scholarship of $500 to any JLHS senior pursuing a post-secondary education.

Lewiston Lions/Lioness
The Lewiston Lions/Lioness Clubs have 5 scholarships available to seniors who have been accepted to a postsecondary college. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline: April 15, 2016.
Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel
MARSP will offer a scholarship for pursuing a higher education in the amount of $300 in each public school in Otsego
County. To qualify, students must be a US citizen and a student at a school in Otsego County. See Mrs. Nowak for an application. Deadline: May 1, 2016.
Montmorency County Ministerial Association – Christian Service Scholarship
All local graduating seniors planning to further their education are invited to apply for the “Christian Service
Scholarship” provided by the Montmorency County Ministerial Association. This educational scholarship, which will not be less than $500, will be awarded to the student demonstrating exemplary Christian character serving their church and community, scholastic achievement and financial need. The scholarship is one of the projects funded by the various events sponsored by the Association throughout the year. All applications will be reviewed by the

Otsego County Community Foundation
There are several scholarships through this organization for students who attend school in Otsego County. Each scholarship has different criteria. REACH Scholarship ($500) : Awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need. Open to all Otsego County
Students.
ATHEL EUGENE & HELEN WILLIAMS NURSING SCHOLARSHIP ($1000) : Awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a 4-year nursing or medical degree. Open to any Otsego County graduating student.
DON SKOP MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ($500): Awarded to Otsego County high school graduates who have a 2.0
GPA or better and will be attending an accredited institution to continue education in a vocational field or skilled trade.
Open to any Otsego County graduating students.
Otsego Memorial Hospital Auxiliary
OMH Auxiliary is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior from a high school in Otsego County. To be eligible, students must be pursuing an education in a health care field and a resident of the primary area serviced by OMH.

Presque Isle Electric and Gas Community First Fund
Applicants must be a legal dependent of a Presque Isle Electric and Gas member and graduate in 2016. Students must be planning to attend an accredited college or university in Michigan in the fall of 2016. Awards are for $1000 payable upon successful completion of the first term. St Francis of Assisi
This scholarship is available to active members of the St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Applicants must also be living in

VFW Scholarship
This scholarship is available only to the son or daughter of a veteran planning to attend an accredited college or university. GPA must be 3.0 or higher. Scholarship awardees will be honored at a special dinner on Saturday, April
23, 2016. Applications are available in the guidance office. Deadline: April 15, 2015 .
William and Lillian Davis Scholarship
This scholarship is available to graduating seniors who have no record at school or other governmental agency of violating laws on drugs, alcohol, thefts, traffic which would endanger lives or property, or any other illegal act.
Preference will be given to students who will be entering a vocational, trade or technical school. If you qualify and are interested in this scholarship, please see Mrs. Nowak for an application. Deadline: March 27, 2016 .
Zonta Club of Gaylord Area Scholarship
This scholarship is available to senior girls who are planning to attend college. Deadline: May 1, 2016.
Zonta - Young Women in Public Affairs Award
This award is $500 at the local level, $1000 at the district/region level and $4000 at the international level. Women of age 16-19 by April 1 st
of each year are eligible to apply. Criteria is based on the following; active commitment to volunteerism, experience in local government or student government, volunteer leadership achievements, knowledge of Zonta International and its programs, and advocating for Zonta International’s mission of advancing the status of women worldwide. Alpena Community College
Alpena Community College offers a variety of scholarships for students who are planning to attend there in the fall of
2016. Students must have applied for college admission before applying for these scholarships. Scholarships range in criteria. Students must fill out the FAFSA in order to qualify for some of these awards. Fortunately, there is one application to complete and you can apply for as many scholarships as you qualify all on the same form. Applications are available in the guidance office. COPAS Scholarship
The Council of Petroleum Accountants Societies is offering 2 - $1000 scholarships to seniors who are going to college to major in accounting, finance or petroleum technology. Candidates must have a GPA or 3.0 or higher. For more information and for applications, please visit www.copasmi.org

Credit Union ONE of Michigan
Seniors who have a family member who has belonged to Credit Union ONE for a minimum of 6 months may be eligible to apply for their scholarship. The student must also have completed 30 or more of documented, qualified community service during their Junior/Senior years of high school, ending April 2016. GPA must be at least a 3.0 and the student must be planning to attend college in the fall on 2016 as a full time student. Michigan Education Association Scholarship
This scholarship is for dependents of MEA members in good standing or MEA-Retired members. Applicants must be graduating from a Michigan public high school or private high school that has a MEA bargaining unit. The applicant must also be planning to or currently attending a Michigan public community/junior college, four-year degree-granting institution or vocational training institution that grants a degree, certificate or license, or be attending one of the following private institutions: Baker College-Flint,/Owosso; University of Detroit-Mercy; Davenport University-Eastern
Region Campus; Adrian College; Finlandia University; Albion College; and Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris

The MRA is providing at least 30 scholarships of $1000 each. These awards are not based on financial need. Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation
The Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation offers a $2000 one-year, non-renewable scholarship to graduating high school seniors. Winners are selected on the basis of scholarship, leadership and dedication to the civil rights principles of Rosa L. Parks, whose historic stand against racial prejudice in 1955 has brought her national recognition.
The foundation was established in 1980 to provide equal-opportunity scholarships to Michigan high school seniors.

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program
Students must be high school seniors or current undergraduates in the fall of 2016. Students must also enroll full-time at a four-year college or university for the entire 2016-17 academic year and major in a course of study that focuses on engineering. Technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry. Scholarship recipients must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries using these areas of study.

Cooperative Education Scholarships
The National Co-op Scholarship Program awards many scholarships for students attending one of the following 10 colleges: Clarkson University, Drexel University, University of Toledo, Johnson and Wales University, University of

Institute of Technology. State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarship
Applicants to the State Farm Good Neighbor Scholarship Program must meet all of the following criteria:
